Thomas Thorild
Thomas Thorild ( Svarteborg, Bohuslän, 18 April 1759 – Greifswald, Swedish Pomerania, 1 October 1808), was a Swedish poet, critic, feminist and philosopher. He was noted for his early support of women's rights. In his 1793 treatise ''Om kvinnokönets naturliga höghet'' he advocated gender equality. He was born in Svarteborg, Sweden and died at Greifswald, which was then Swedish Pomerania, and is now part of the German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. His original name was ''Thomas Thorén'' and he studied at Lund University in Sweden and worked or studied at the University of Greifswald in Germany. Thorild was a supporter of the Sturm und Drang movement and considered an opponent of French-inspired classicism. In 1795 he became a professor and librarian at the University of Greifswald. Margareta Capsia
Margareta Capsia (1682 – 20 June 1759) was a Swedish/Finnish artist, the first professional native female artist in Finland, which during her lifetime was a part of Sweden. She mainly painted altarpieces, but was also active as a portrait painter. Biography and career Capsia was born in Sweden, the child of Gottfried Capsia and Anna Schultz. She married the priest Jacob Gavelin in Stockholm in 1719. After the Great Northern War in 1721 they moved to Vasa (Fi. Vaasa), where Margareta became known as an altarpiece painter in Österbotten. In 1730, they moved to Åbo (Fi. Turku), where she became a famous artist throughout Finland, and where she eventually died. Her altarpieces were described as individual illustrations of the bible, and she was regarded as one of the best painters in the genre together with Mikael Toppelius. Johan Anton Lindqvist
Johan Anton Lindqvist (25 December 1759 - 17 September 1833) was a Swedish stage actor and theater director. Biography Lindqvist was born at Ystad, Sweden. He was active in the theater party of Carl Seuerling Carl Gottfried Seuerling (1727-1795) was a German born, Swedish stage actor and theater director. He was the director of the Seuerling theater Company in 1768-93 and as such the leader of one of only two professional Swedish language theater comp ... in 1788. He was the director of the Lindqvist theater Company in 1793-1820. He played an important role in Swedish theater life outside of Stockholm, being the leader of one of the largest theater companies in Sweden. Lindqvist and his company maintained the operations of the theatres in Gothenburg. Charlotte Eckerman
Beata Charlotta "Charlotte" Eckerman (1759 – 16 January 1790 in Stockholm), was a Swedish opera singer and actress. She was also a very well known courtesan during the Gustavian era, and the official royal mistress of Charles XIII of Sweden from 1779 to 1781. Life Charlotte Eckerman was the daughter of Bengt Edvard Eckerman, cavalry captain of the Royal Scanian Husars, and the writer Catharina Ahlgren. Her father was the cousin of Carl Fredrik Ekerman, speaker of the burghers in the Swedish parliament, and her mother was at one point the ''kammarfru'' of the queen, Louisa Ulrika of Prussia. In the custody of her father after her parents divorce, she was described as more or less an orphan. She had two brothers and a sister, as well as several halfsiblings by her fathers second marriage and by her mother. Anna ''Sophia'' Holmstedt (1759–1807) as married Anna Sophia Bleumortier, was a Swedish ballet dancer and translator. Sophia Holmstedt belonged to the pioneers of Swedish ballet at the Royal Swedish Ballet upon its foundation in Bollhuset in 1773. In 1774, at the age of fifteen, she debuted as a translator by a translation of the French comedy play ''Slafhandlaren i Smirna'' (''Le Marchand de Smyrne'') by Nicolas Chamfort in collaboration with Olof Kexel. It was recommended for "an unusually beautiful and easy Swedish". The play was performed on the Stenborg theatre in Stockholm on Monday 24 October 1774 in dedication to king Gustav III of Sweden. Carl Fredric Von Breda
Carl Frederik von Breda (16 August 1759 – 1 December 1818) was a Swedish painter who studied in and spent much of his career in Britain before becoming painter to the Swedish court. He was born in Stockholm in 1759, and moved to Britain where he was a student of Joshua Reynolds. Breda specialized in painting portraits and was called "the van Dyck of Sweden". He returned to Sweden 1796 where he became professor at the Academy of Arts, a popular portraitist, and a court painter. Breda married at age 22 and his son, Johan Fredrik, was also a painter, who studied under his father. Breda died in Stockholm in 1818. Breda painted James Watt.
