Anders Celsius
Anders Celsius (; 27 November 170125 April 1744) was a Swedish astronomer, physicist and mathematician. He was professor of astronomy at Uppsala University from 1730 to 1744, but traveled from 1732 to 1735 visiting notable observatories in Germany, Italy and France. He founded the Uppsala Astronomical Observatory in 1741, and in 1742 proposed (an inverted form of) the Centigrade temperature scale which was later renamed Celsius in his honour. Early life and education Anders Celsius was born in Uppsala, Sweden, on 27 November 1701. His family originated from Ovanåker in the province of Hälsingland. Their family estate was at ''Doma'', also known as ''Höjen'' or ''Högen'' (locally as ''Högen 2''). The name ''Celsius'' is a latinization of the estate's name (Latin ''celsus'' "mound"). Hedvig Taube
Hedvig Ulrika Taube (31 October 1714 – 11 February 1744), also Countess von Hessenstein was a Swedish courtier and countess, a Holy Roman countess of the Empire, and royal mistress to king Frederick I of Sweden from 1731 to 1744. She is regarded as one of only two official royal mistresses in Swedish history. Early life Hedvig Taube was one of 9 children of Count Edvard Didrik Taube (1681-1751) and Christina Maria Falkenberg (1686-1753). Her sister, Catherine Charlotte, was to marry the brother of famous scientist Countess Eva Ekeblad, who was also the aunt of the renowned Axel von Fersen the Younger. In 1716, the future king Frederick became one of the godparents to her sister Christina Beata. During the 1720s, her father was nearly ruined and placed in heavy debt because of gambling and bad business: in 1730, the family had been forced to change their city residence to a cheaper one. Jacob Guntlack (1744–1771) was a notorious Swedish thief and impostor. He began his thievery in Sweden and Finland at age fifteen; he was a famous criminal by the time he was executed in Stockholm in front of thousands of spectators. Charlotte Du Rietz
Charlotta "Charlotte" du Riez or Du Rietz, née De Geer (1744–1820) was a Swedish baroness, known as a love object of King Gustav III. It is unknown whether or not she was ever physically involved with the monarch. She was the daughter of Marshal Baron Charles De Geer and Catharina Charlotta Ribbing and married Lieutenant Anders Rudolf du Rietz in 1765. She is described as a well-educated and cultivated intellectual, with an interest in chemistry. In February 1768, it was noted that Charlotte Du Rietz and Eva Helena Löwen flirted with Crown Prince Gustav and attempted to seduce him. Eventually, he reportedly succumbed to the advances of the former. From July to September 1768, Charlotte and Crown Prince Gustav were involved in a strong emotional friendship.
