The efforts to keep the disease from spreading fail and a total of 40,000 people in Copenhagen and northern Zealand are killed by the disease during the outbreak. The blockade of Helsingør is not lifted until 25 July 1712. Frederik Barfred
Frederik Barfred (1711 7 January 1794) was a wealthy Danish wine merchant and landowner. He owned the property Rådhusstræde 1 in Copenhagen as well as the estate Benzonsdal at Thorsminde. He operated the tavern in the basement of Copenhagen City Hall. He was elected as one of Copenhagen's 32 Men and also served as one of the directors of Kjøbenhavns Brandforsikring. Early life and education Barfred was born in 1711. Some sources mention that he was born in Kalundborg but he cannot be found in the church records. He was trained as a wine merchant both in Denmark and abroad. He was in Frankfurt in 1734. Career In 1739, Barfred acquired citizenship as a wine merchant in Copenhagen after having bought the property at the corner of Rådhusstræde and Brolæggerstræde (now Rådhusstræde 1). On 29 June 1740. he was married to a daughter of the wealthy brewer Lauritz Rasmussen. This secured him a downy of 12,000 Danish rigsdaler and connections in the city's business elite. From 17 ... Cille Gad
Cille Gad (1675-1711) was a Norwegian poet and culture personality. She was also well known as a female academic, something regarded as notable during by her contemporaries. Biography Cille Gad was born and grew up in Bergen, Norway. She was the daughter of Knud Gad (d. 1711) and Anna Abrahamsdatter. Her father was a printer and auditor. Her mother was the cousin of Dorothe Engelbretsdatter. She received instruction in Greek, Latin, and Hebrew from her father. She early wrote poems in Latin, but they were presumably destroyed by the great fire of Bergen in 1702. In 1705, she secretly gave birth to a fetus which was found dead. She was arrested, but her correspondent Otto Sperling appealed to the monarch that a learned female should not be executed. She was released in 1707 and banished from Bergen. Johann Gottfried Becker (1639–1711)
Johann Gottfried Becker (7 October 1639 — 17 May 1711) was a Danish pharmacist. He served as court pharmacist for Frederick III of Denmark, Frederick III and opened the Kongelig Hof Apotek, Elephant Pharmacy on Købmagergade in Copenhagen in 1670. Early life and education Becker was born in Husum, the son of principal Gottfried Becker (1600–1652) by his first wife Elisabeth Ehrenreich (died 1645). He apprenticed as a pharmacist in Flensburg from 1655 and stayed there for six years. He then went on a study trip to Türol but returned to Denmark in 1664 where he stayed with his brother in Odense for about a year. He then went on another study trip to Germany, Italy and Vienna. Career In 1668 Becker was called home to Denmark to serve as court pharmacist for Frederick III of Denmark, Frederick III. He had been recommended for the position by Giuseppe Francesco Borri. Utilia Lenkiewitz
Utilia Lenkiewitz (née Utilia van Mander) (1711 – September 23, 1770) was a Danish actress, one of the first of her profession from Denmark, and a member of the pioneer-troupe of the Royal Danish Theatre. Life and career Born the child of the painter Karel van Mander, she was a part of one of the two native theatre troupes created when public theatrical activity became legal in Denmark in 1746, following a ban. The organist Carl August Thielo was the first to be given a theatre privilege, and he opened a theatre at Store Kongensgade in 1747; the same year, Julius Henrik von Qvoten opened one which played in both Danish and German, and Lenkiewitz is believed to have been a part of the Qvoten-troupe. The actors from the troupes of these temporary theatres were then employed as staff when the Royal Danish Theatre was opened in 1748, with Thielo as director.
