15th Sarasaviya Awards
The 15th Sarasaviya Awards festival ( si, 15වැනි සරසවිය සම්මාන උලෙළ), presented by the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited, was held to honor the best films of 1986 Cinema of Sri Lanka, Sinhala cinema on July 25, 1987, at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall, Colombo 07, Sri Lanka. Minister of Lands and Land Development Gamini Dissanayake was the chief guest at the awards night. Even though the film ''Maldeniye Simieon'' won seven awards including Sarasaviya Best Film Award, Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actress, most number of awards were received to the film ''Koti Waligaya'' which included eleven awards. Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall
The Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH), ( si, බණ්ඩාරනායක ජාත්යාන්තර සම්මන්ත්රණ ශාලාව ta, பண்டாரநாயக்க சர்வதேச மாநாட்டு மண்டபம்) is a convention center located in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Built between 1970 and 1973, the convention centre was a gift from the People's Republic of China in memory of Solomon Ridgeway Dias Bandaranaike, Prime Minister (1956–1959). The construction of the hall was carried out by a joint Sri Lankan and Chinese workforce with a considerable portion of the building materials being imported from China. In 1998 a small Exhibition Centre, the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Memorial Exhibition Centre, was built on the grounds as a gift from China. The BMICH premises is managed by the S. W. R. D. Sarasaviya Most Popular Actor Award
The Sarasaviya Most Popular Actor Award is presented annually by the weekly Sarasaviya newspaper in collaboration with the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited at the Sarasaviya Awards Festival. This award is decided solely on popular vote and is chosen based on the verdict given by the readers of the weekly Sarasaviya. Although the Sarasaviya Awards Ceremony began in 1964, this award was introduced two years later, in 1966. Gamini Fonseka was chosen as the most popular actor, that year. During the two decades from 1962 to 1982 Gamini Fonseka managed to retain this title marking the period from Ranmuthuduwa in 1962 to Sakvithi Suvaya in 1982 most appropriately as the Gamini Fonseka era. Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited (ANCL), also known as Lake House. Chandralekha Perera
Chandralekha Perera ( si, චන්ද්රලේඛා පෙරේරා) (born 1 December 1961), is a popular Sri Lankan pop singer. Personal life Perera was born to a middle-class family in Kurunegala. As a child she often sang at home. At school she frequently sang and successfully took part in inter-school competitions. While studying she sang for the band "Spring Time" in Kurunegala. She met her future husband Rookantha Goonatillake in 1976 when he was a keyboard player for the band. Perera married Rookantha Goonatillake in 1989, and she has three daughters and a son. Sunil Edirisinghe
Patikirige Sunil Jayapreethi Edirisinghe ( Sinhala:සුනිල් එදිරිසිංහ; born 19 December 1949) is a Sri Lankan classical musician. Edirisinghe won the presidential award for playback singing in 1983 for "Maya Miringuva Pirunu Lo Thale" from ''Adhishtanaya''. He was awarded the Swarna Sankha Award for playback singing in 1988 for "Thurulaka Hurathal" from ''Mangala Thagga'' and in 1990 for "Walakulak Gena Muwa Karamu" from ''Saharave Sihinaya''. He has also won the Sarasaviya Award for playback singing in 1988 for "Thidasa Pure" from ''Sandakada Pahana'' and in 2002 for "Poronduwa" from ''Poronduwa''. Rohana Weerasinghe
DR. Rohana Weerasinghe (born February 18, 1949), is a Sri Lankan musician, composer and singer. Early life Weerasinghe was born on 18 February 1949 in Algiriya, Matara in southern Sri Lanka. He was the youngest child to his parents Henry Weerasinghe and Sepalin Weerasinghe. In 1954, Weerasinghe started schooling from Good Shepard Family Convent in Nuwara Eliya, and later moved to Vidyachakra Buddhist School Ruwan Eliya, Welimada Maha Vidyalaya, Pannipitya Dharmapala Vidyalaya and Gamini Maha Vidyalaya Nuwara Eliya. In 1977, Weerasinghe married to Leela Beatrice De Silva, a dancing teacher in profession. They had two sons, Kalindu Gajaba and Chirath Kanishka. His cousin daughter Priyani Jayasinghe was also a popular actress in Sri Lanka, who sang the popular hits ''Kandula Niwannam'' and ''Sundara Hadakata''.
