14th Sarasaviya Awards
The 14th Sarasaviya Awards festival (Sinhala: 14වැනි සරසවිය සම්මාන උලෙළ), presented by the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited, was held to honor the best films of 1985 Sinhala cinema on July 19, 1986, at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall, Colombo 07, Sri Lanka. Srimani Athulathmudali was the chief guest at the awards night. Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall
The Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH), ( si, බණ්ඩාරනායක ජාත්යාන්තර සම්මන්ත්රණ ශාලාව ta, பண்டாரநாயக்க சர்வதேச மாநாட்டு மண்டபம்) is a convention center located in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Built between 1970 and 1973, the convention centre was a gift from the People's Republic of China in memory of Solomon Ridgeway Dias Bandaranaike, Prime Minister (1956–1959). The construction of the hall was carried out by a joint Sri Lankan and Chinese workforce with a considerable portion of the building materials being imported from China. In 1998 a small Exhibition Centre, the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Memorial Exhibition Centre, was built on the grounds as a gift from China. The BMICH premises is managed by the S. W. R. D. Simon Navagattegama
Simon Navagattegama lso spelled Nawagattegama (September 15, 1940 – October 9, 2005) was a Sinhala novelist, Sinhala Radio Play writer, playwright and actor. He is well known for his novel Sansararanye Dhadayakkaraya (Hunter in the wilderness of the Sansara) for its magical realism which is influenced by Buddhist mythologies, Mahayana Buddhist concepts and Freudian and Jungian psychoanalysis. Literary style K. K. Saman Kumara, a literary critic and writer in Sri Lanka, calls Simon as the predecessor of magical realism in Sri Lanka and calls his literary style as a Buddhist Borgesian one. Saman Kumara terms the Simon’s Literature as the ‘Buddhist Wisdom Literature’, taking it as a separate genre, which is unique to Sri Lanka. He compares Simon’s Literary endeavor to the philosophical attempts of Erick Fromm, who tried to merge Buddhism, Marxism, and Freudian psychoanalysis. Malani Bulathsinhala
Malani Bulathsinhala (12 December 1949 - 29 March 2001: si, මාලනී බුලත්සිංහල) was a Sri Lankan singer. She began her musical career at age 10 with the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation. Personal life Bulathsinhala was born on 12 December 1949, in Boralesgamuwa, the oldest child of Wilson and P. K. Bulathsinhala. She had two siblings, a brother, Sireshan, and sister, Sandhya. She completed her education at the Papiliyana Beacon School for Girls. She also served as Assistant Director of Education in the western Sri Lankan province of Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte. She married fellow musician Hearth Muidiyanselage Jayawardena on 30 December 1978, and was the mother of musician Kasun Kalhara. Ranasinghe Arachchilage Ajantha Sarath Kumara Ranasinghe (30 May 1940 – 27 February 2016), popularly as Ajantha Ranasinghe, was an award winning Sri Lankan journalist, lyricist, poet, and novelist. Considered one of the most iconic and prolific lyricists ever produced in the country, over the course of a 40 year career he contributed to nearly 60 films and more than 400 songs. Personal life Ajantha Ranasinghe was born on 30 May 1940 in Thalammahara, a small village in the Kurunegala district. Deshamanya Kala Keerthi Dr.Premasiri Khemadasa ( Sinhala: ආචාර්ය ප්රේමසිරි කේමදාස ) (25 January 1937 – 24 October 2008) also known as "Khemadasa Master" was a Sri Lankan music composer. Exploring the various styles of music around the world Khemadasa endeavoured to develop a unique style of music. He combined Sinhala folk tunes, Hindustani music, Western music and many other streams of music in his compositions while adapting them to fit contemporary music. Senadhipathige Granville Rodrigo,(born 22 September 1958 – died 14 January 1999 as ග්රැන්විල් රොද්රිගෝ) inhala, popularly known as Granville Rodrigo, was an actor in Sri Lankan cinema, stage drama and television as well as a singer and art director. Highly versatile actor from drama to comedy, he is best known for the role in ''Manokaya'' and role ''Nihal Karapitiya'' in ''Nonawaruni Mahathwaruni'' teledrama. He was also a former navy officer.
