The 12th Independent Air Defense Army () was an army of the Soviet Air Defense Forces based in Soviet Central Asia from 1963, with six years' break in the early 1980s, until 1992. History The headquarters of the 12th Independent Air Defense Army was formed from the headquarters of the 30th Independent Air Defense Corps in May 1963 in accordance with a directive issued in January of that year, under the command of corps commander commander Lieutenant General Yuri Votintsev. The 30th Independent Air Defense Corps was formed in May 1960 from the Turkestan Air Defense Corps, formed in July and August 1954. 9th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment
The 9th "Odessa" Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment was a "regiment of aces" unit in the Soviet Air Forces created to assist the USSR in gaining air supremacy over the Luftwaffe during the Second World War. Second World War Pilots admitted to the regiment were either already aces or considered potential aces by their commanders. Throughout the war the regiment operated various aircraft, including the Polikarpov I-16, LaGG-3, Yak-1, Bell P-39 Airacobra, and Lavochkin La-7. Prior to being designated as the 9th Guards Regiment in 1942, the unit was the known as the 69th Fighter Aviation Regiment and equipped with I-16 and MiG-3 fighters, having been formed in 1939. Avaza
Awaza (or Avaza) refers to both a tourist zone in and a borough (district headed by a presidentially appointed mayor) of the city of Türkmenbaşy, Turkmenistan. It is located on the eastern shore of the Caspian Sea, 12 km west of downtown Türkmenbaşy. The Awaza District (borough) of Türkmenbaşy city was formed in July 2013. Awaza District, an area of 9660 hectares, includes the Awaza national tourist zone, Turkmenbashi International Airport and a small residential area.
