119th Illinois Infantry Regiment
The 119th Regiment, Illinois Volunteer Infantry was an infantry regiment in the Union Army during the American Civil War. Service The 119th Illinois Infantry was organized in Quincy, Illinois beginning in September 1862 and mustered in for three years service on October 7, 1862 under the command of Colonel Thomas Jefferson Kinney. XIII Corps (Union Army)
XIII Corps was a corps of the Union Army during the American Civil War. It was first led by Ulysses S. Grant and later by John A. McClernand and Edward O.C. Ord. It served in the Western Theater of civil war, Trans-Mississippi Theater and along the Gulf of Mexico. Corps History Creation The XIII Corps, along with the XIV Corps, were both put into commission on October 24, 1862 with the passing of General Orders No. 168. These two corps were the first corps created in the Western Theater. While the XIV Corps constituted all forces under the command of William S. Rosecrans, the XIII Corps likewise constituted all the forces under Ulysses S. Grant. Samuel Kerns McConnell Jr. (April 6, 1901 – April 11, 1985) was a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Pennsylvania. Biography Samuel Kerns McConnell Jr. was born in Eddystone, Pennsylvania. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania at Philadelphia in 1923. He was engaged in the investment banking business in 1926, and was a member of the board of trustees of the Norristown State Hospital, 1939–1944, serving as president, 1940-1944. The Army of the Cumberland was one of the principal Union armies in the Western Theater during the American Civil War. It was originally known as the Army of the Ohio. History The origin of the Army of the Cumberland dates back to the creation of the Army of the Ohio in November 1861, under the command of Brig. Gen. Robert Anderson. The army fought under the name Army of the Ohio until Maj. Gen. William S. Rosecrans assumed command of the army and the Department of the Cumberland and changed the name of the combined entity to the Army of the Cumberland.
