The 118th United States Congress is the next meeting of the legislative branch of the United States federal government, composed of the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives. It is scheduled to meet in Washington, D.C., from January 3, 2023, to January 3, 2025, during the final two years of Joe Biden's first term of presidency. In the 2022 midterm elections, the Republicans won control of the House for the first time since the , while the Democrats gained one seat in the Senate, expanding their majority from 50–50 (with a coalition of 48 Democrats, two independents, and Vice President Kamala Harris serving as the tie breaker) to 51–49 (with a coalition of 48 Democrats and three independents). Kamala Devi Harris ( ; born October 20, 1964) is an American politician and attorney who is the 49th vice president of the United States. She is the first female vice president and the highest-ranking female official in U.S. history, as well as the first African American and first Asian American vice president.
