The ceremony was held in association with the local Music Fund (HF) and the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry Slovakia (SNS IFPPI). As with the previous edition, the accolades were named after the Artmedia Music Academy, established by ZAI and the related company in 1999. ZAI Awards
The ZAI Awards (''Hudobný fond'' or HF) are a Slovak music accolade presented by '' Zväz autorov a interprétov populárnej hudby'' (ZAI) to recognize outstanding achievements in the industry for the preceding year in the region. In the early phase, the annual ceremonies were held in association with the local Music Fund (HF) and International Federation of the Phonographic Industry Slovakia (SNS IFPI). For that reason, their follow-up equivalents were frequently renamed; once after the American Gramies (1996–1997). Following a 1997 protest of the U.S. NARAS management against the Czech music awards, also called likewise, the Slovak organization decided to change the adopted name too, renaming then trophies after the Artmedia Music Academy (1998–2000), also established by ZAI. ''SME'' or ''Denník SME'' (in English: ''WE ARE'' Daily) is one of the most widely read mainstream broadsheets in Slovakia. Their website, SME.sk, is one of the most visited Internet portals in Slovakia. History and profile ''SME'' was founded in mid-January 1993. ''SME'' appears 6 times a week. It is issued by Petit Press. ''Korzár'' ( Slovak: ''Corsair'') is a regional newspaper published in Košice, Slovakia. The paper has been in circulation since 1998. History and profile The newspaper was established in 1998. At the initial stage, the paper was named ''Korzo'' and was renamed later as ''Korzár''. It is headquartered and published in Košice. The paper was published in broadsheet format. Then it switched to the tabloid format. ''Korzár'' is the largest and only regional publication of Slovakia. It covers news on eastern Slovakia and has the highest circulation in the region. No Name (Slovak Band)
No Name is a Slovak rock band. It was formed in Košice on 26 August 1996 by Viliam Gutray and three Timko brothers - Igor, Roman, and Ivan. Marián Čekovský joined No Name as a keyboardist and was replaced by Zoli Šallai after leaving the band. A few years later, the youngest Timko brother, Dušan, also became a member of No Name. No Name became known to Slovak audiences in part by playing the Bratislavská lýra festival , but their came with their second album, ''Počkám si na zázrak'' (I'll Wait for a Miracle), which featured the hit singles "Ty a Tvoja sestra" (You and Your Sister) and "Žily" (Veins). Peter Lipa
Peter Lipa (born May 30, 1943) is a Slovaks, Slovak singer, composer, and promoter of jazz. He has been called the Honorific nicknames in popular music, Father of Slovak Jazz. Lipa is regarded as the most significant figure in the Slovak jazz scene. He developed a unique vocal style that focused on the lyrics. His music is influenced by performers including Jimmy Rushing, Ray Charles, Al Jarreau, Joe Cocker, and Bobby McFerrin, and is a mix of jazz and blues. He was the first jazz singer to use Slovak. Life and career Lipa was born in Prešov to Hungarian parents and has worked in Czechoslovakia, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia. His roots are in blues, soul, and classical music and his work rock and jazz standards. In 2003, he released an album called ''Beatles in Blue(s)'' with versions of sixteen songs by The Beatles. Richard Müller (singer)
Richard Müller (born 6 September 1961) is a Slovak singer, songwriter, and occasional actor. He is one of the most successful singers in both the Czech Republic and Slovakia, where he has sold more than one million records. Biography He started as a music journalist. In the beginning of the 1980s, while studying the theory of drama and screenplay at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava (VŠMU), he started writing for the daily paper and the only specialized periodical at the time, ''Popular'', and, later, for ''Gramorevue''. As a journalist, in his own words, he could get close to the musicians he admired easier. His first song, ''Radio'', was recorded with the Burčiak Pavla Daněka band. The track was very successful in the music chart 5xp, which encouraged Müller to start a band with Martin Karvaš, it was called Banket. Pavol Hammel
Pavol Hammel (born 7 December 1948, in Bratislava) is a Slovakia, Slovak musician, singer and producer. Pavol Hammel was born to a family of musicians. His father played violin in the Slovak National Theatre, and influenced Pavol to become a promising violin player too. He graduated from the Faculty of Law, Comenius University in Bratislava in 1976. He gained fame initially in the group Prúdy, but has since established a successful solo career. He is married and has two daughters. Jozef Ráž
Jozef "Jožo" Ráž (born 24 October 1954) is a Slovak singer–songwriter and bassist from Bratislava known mainly for his work with the group Elán. Career Jožo Ráž founded the pop-rock band Elán in 1968 together with his school classmates Vašo Patejdl, Juraj Farkaš, and Zdeno Baláž. They became one of the most popular Czechoslovak bands during the 1980s, releasing ten successful albums between 1981 and 1991. He is also an occasional actor: in 1989, he played himself in the fictionalized film about the band Elán, ''Rabaka''. Personal life Ráž graduated from the Faculty of Arts, Comenius University in Bratislava. In the summer of 1999, while riding his motorcycle in Bratislava's city center, Ráž was hit by a car, causing him a serious head injury as well as a broken nose, wrist, and right leg. Martin Valihora
Martin Valihora (born 4 May 1976) is a Slovak drummer and percussionist. Valihora studied piano between 1986 and 1987, but then switched to drums, having received private lessons from a Slovak drummer Oldo Petráš. He then studied drums and percussions at the Conservatorium in Bratislava (Slovakia) between 1990 and 1992 taking drum classes taught by prof. Marián Zajaček. Valihora played in numerous Slovak pop, rock or jazz bands such as IMT Smile, Collegium Musicum, Midi, Prúdy, Fermáta, Kvatret Gaba Jonáša, Barflies and Deepnspace. Having been awarded a scholarship on the Berklee College of Music in Boston, he established himself as a part of the New York's jazz scene. He worked with Japanese jazz pianist Hiromi Uehara for four years, between 2004 and 2008.
