1st Surrey Rifles F.C.
1st Surrey Rifles F.C. was an amateur football club, open to members of the corps, who featured in the early years of the FA Cup from 1872 to 1878. The first reported match played against external opposition was a 1-0 victory against the Lausanne club at the latter's Rosemary Branch ground in 1871. The club's first Cup tie, in 1872-73, resulted in a 2-0 win over Upton Park F.C., in poor weather, the second goal coming near the close of play. The club did not win again in the competition until 1877-78, beating Forest School at Flodden Road in Camberwell. 1st Surrey Rifles
The 1st Surrey Rifles (often spelled out in full as First Surrey Rifles and abbreviated as FSR) was a volunteer unit of the British Army from 1859 until 1993. It saw considerable service on the Western Front (World War I), Western Front, at Macedonian front, Salonika and in Sinai and Palestine Campaign, Palestine during World War I. It served as a searchlight unit and as a light anti-aircraft regiment during World War II. Forest School is an independent day school in Walthamstow in the London borough of Waltham Forest. The school occupies a large campus around its original Grade II listed Georgian and Victorian terraced buildings. The school has more than 1,430 pupils, aged 4 to 18, split equally between boys and girls. Charles W
The F/V ''Charles W'', also known as Annie J Larsen, is a historic fishing schooner anchored in Petersburg, Alaska. At the time of its retirement in 2000, it was the oldest fishing vessel in the fishing fleet of Southeast Alaska, and the only known wooden fishing vessel in the entire state still in active service. Launched in 1907, she was first used in the halibut fisheries of Puget Sound and the Bering Sea as the ''Annie J Larsen''. In 1925 she was purchased by the Alaska Glacier Seafood Company, refitted for shrimp trawling, and renamed ''Charles W'' in honor of owner Karl Sifferman's father. The company was one of the pioneers of the local shrimp fishery, a business it began to phase out due to increasing competition in the 1970s. The ''Charles W'' was the last of the company's fleet of ships, which numbered twelve at its height. The boat was acquired in 2002 by the nonprofit Friends of the ''Charles W''. William Maynard (footballer)
William John Maynard (18 March 1853 – 2 September 1921) was an English footballer who played for England, firstly as a forward and later in goal, in the first international match against Scotland. Career Maynard was born in London and joined the 1st Surrey Rifles F.C. based in Flodden Road, Camberwell. He was selected to play as a forward for England's first ever international match against Scotland on 30 November 1872 but at some point in the game he switched places with Robert Barker in goal and, like Barker, kept a clean sheet in a goalless draw. At 19 years, 157 days Maynard was the youngest player in the England line-up. His second and last international appearance came on 4 March 1876 when he played on the left wing in a 3–0 defeat by Scotland. In 1877 he represented Surrey and later spent a year with the Wanderers.
