1st Brigade (Belgium)
The Motorised Brigade, formerly the Medium Brigade, is a Brigade of the Land Component of the Belgian Armed Forces commanded by Colonel Jean-Louis Crucifix. Its headquarters is located in Leopoldsburg. After World War II, the unit was known as the Brigade Bevrijding, 1er Groupement d'Infanterie and finally as the 1re Brigade d'Infanterie, later the 1re Brigade d'Infanterie Blindée. The brigade consists of 5 manoeuvre battalions. Equipment: The brigade uses various motorised vehicles, including 44x pandur I, 382x VBMR griffon, 60x EBRC Jaguar and hundreds of Iveco LMV. Pandur I
The Pandur is an APC developed and produced by the Austrian company Steyr-Daimler-Puch Spezialfahrzeuge (SSF). It was developed during the 1980s as a private venture. In 2003, General Dynamics took over Steyr-Daimler-Puch which is now part of General Dynamics European Land Systems (GD ELS), which is also the parent company of MOWAG, Santa Bárbara Sistemas and GD ELS – Germany. GIAT LG1
The LG1 is a modern 105 mm towed howitzer designed and produced by GIAT Industries (now Nexter group) of France. Design The LG1 howitzer is a 105 mm towed artillery piece that features both low weight and a high level of accuracy over long distances. Its lightweight construction gives the barrel a relatively short lifespan. The equivalent full charge (EFC) count is suggested to be approximately 7,500; however, during fire and practice, has yielded only around 1,500 EFCs. The gun was specifically designed for use by rapid deployment forces with attributes such as ruggedness, ease of operation and reduced weight. It can fire all NATO standard 105 mm ammunition up to a range of using HE-ER G3 base bleed rounds. The MO-120 RT (factory designator) or MO-120-RT is a French heavy mortar. The RT in the designator stands for ''rayé, tracté'', which means rifled, towed. Artillery Battalion (Belgium)
The Artillery Battalion ( nl, Bataljon Artillerie) is the only artillery battalion in the Motorized Brigade of the Belgian Armed Forces. It was created in 2010 by merging all artillery units that remained in the Belgian military. It upholds the traditions of the disbanded 2nd Field Artillery Regiment. The battalion is based in Brasschaat and consists of a Mortar battery, operating 120mm mortars and a howitzer battery, operating 14 LG1 howitzers. A third battery, which operated Mistral surface-to-air missiles and based in Lombardsijde, was disbanded without replacement on 31 December 2017. On 23 December 2018 it came under command and provides fire support to the Motorized Brigade. The Bataljon Bevrijding – 5 Linie () is an infantry battalion in the Land Component of the Belgian Armed Forces. The regiment is a part of the Motorized Brigade and is Dutch-speaking.
