1st AIBA American 2004 Olympic Qualifying Tournament
The 1st AIBA American 2004 Olympic Boxing Qualifying Tournament was held in Tijuana, Mexico from March 12 to March 20, 2004. It was the first chance for amateur boxers from North-, Central- and South America to qualify for the 2004 Summer Olympics after the 2003 Pan American Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The top two boxers in each weight division gained a place in the Olympics, with the exception of the heavyweight and super heavyweight divisions in which just the winner was entered. Andrew Singh Kooner (born 11 May 1979 in Kettering, Northamptonshire, England) is a Canadian boxer and trainer, currently living in Toronto. Amateur career Andrew Kooner moved to Tecumseh, Ontario at a young age and began boxing at age 13 out of a Windsor boxing club. At the 2000 Summer Olympics he lost in the 2nd round in the flyweight division. In 1998 he won the bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games; and in 2002 he won the silver medal at the Commonwealth Games. Luis Franco Vazquez (born January 14, 1982) is a Cuban pro boxer best known for participating at the 2004 Summer Olympics in the featherweight division (– 57 kg). Amateur Franco won the junior world championships in 2000 at the age of 14. He lost the 2003 national bantamweight final to Guillermo Rigondeaux and went up to featherweight.
