1999–2000 United States Network Television Schedule
The 1999–2000 network television schedule for the six major English language commercial broadcast networks in the United States. The schedule covers primetime hours from September 1999 through August 2000. The schedule is followed by a list per network of returning series, new series, and series cancelled after the 1998–99 season. PBS is not included; member stations have local flexibility over most of their schedules and broadcast times for network shows may vary. New series highlighted in bold. All times are U.S. Eastern and Pacific Time (except for some live sports or events). Subtract for one hour for Central, Mountain, Alaska and Hawaii-Aleutian times. In the United States, for most of the history of broadcasting, there were only three or four major commercial national terrestrial networks. From 1946 to 1956, these were ABC, CBS, NBC and DuMont (though the Paramount Television Network had some limited success during these years). ''Twenty-One'' was an American game show originally hosted by Jack Barry that aired on NBC from 1956 to 1958. Produced by Jack Barry-Dan Enright Productions, two contestants competed against each other in separate isolation booths, answering general-knowledge questions to earn 21 total points. The program became notorious when it was found to be rigged as part of the 1950s quiz show scandals, which nearly caused the demise of the entire genre in the wake of United States Senate investigations. ''Third Watch'' is an American crime drama television series created by John Wells and Edward Allen Bernero that aired on NBC from September 26, 1999, to May 6, 2005, with a total of 132 episodes spanning over six seasons. ''The World's Funniest!'' is an American reality show that aired on Fox in 1997. It was hosted by James Brown and announced by Mark Thompson. The show was similar in format to ABC's ''America's Funniest Home Videos'', but also featuring funny clips from TV shows, bloopers, and funny TV commercials. Unlike ''AFHV'', there was no contest element and viewer-submitted videos were not rewarded with prizes. It was also hosted without a studio audience, with laughter backing during clips coming via laugh track.
