The 1999–2000 Liga Nacional de Fútbol Femenino was the 12th season of the Spanish women's football first division. Irex Puebla won its first title. Competition format Teams were divided into four groups of 14 teams each one. The four group winners would qualify to the Final Four for deciding the league champion. The Primera División de la Liga de Fútbol Femenino, currently known as Liga F (finetwork Liga F for sponsorship reasons), is the highest level of league competition for women's football in Spain. It is the women's equivalent of the men's La Liga, and it is organized by the ''Liga Profesional Femenina de Fútbol (LPFF)''. As one of the top six national leagues ranked by Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) coefficient, it is considered one of the most important women's leagues in Europe. Starting with the 2021–22 edition, as determined by the UEFA women's coefficient, the top three teams will qualify for the UEFA Women's Champions League. RCD Espanyol Femení (Real Club Deportivo Español) is the women's football section of RCD Espanyol and was founded in 1970. History RCD Espanyol was one of the pioneering teams in women's football in Spain, playing its first match as early as 1970. The team's first national success came in 1989, when they first reached the national cup's final, losing it against Añorga. They won the competition for the first time in 1996, and successfully defended the title the following year. 2006 was their most successful season to date as they won their first (and for now only) league title and their third Queen's Cup. Asociación Deportiva Peña Nuestra Señora de la Antigua, also known as Corderex La Antigua for sponsorship reasons, was a Spanish women's football club from Mérida settled in the city's Nuestra Señora de la Antigua district. FCF Atlético Jiennense
FCF Atlético Jiennense is a Spanish football club from Jaén, currently playing in third-tier Primera Provincial Andaluza. Jiennense played in second-tier Primera Nacional through the 2000s, usually ranking in the top half of the table. In 2009 it topped its group, but it lost to Oviedo Moderno CF in the promotion play-offs. However, the 2009-10 Superliga was expanded with clubs from the male leagues, and Real Jaén CF chose Atlético Jiennense to represent it in the top category. In its debut season as Real Jaén Femenino the team was second to last in the overall table with 3 wins and 2 draws in 24 games. By the end of the season Real Jaén was in peril of bankruptcy, and it decided to withdraw from women's football. Club de Fútbol Femenino Estudiantes de Huelva was a Spanish women's football team from Huelva created in 1998 and disbanded in 2006. A founding member of the new Superliga Femenina in 2001, it was the city's leading women's club until its disappearance. Club Deportivo Híspalis is a Spanish football club from Seville founded in 1972. It is best known for its women's team, created in 1992, which currently plays in the Segunda División. History CD Híspalis was one of the eleven founding members of the reunified Superliga Femenina in 2002. For the first three seasons it ranked in the league's bottom half, but in 2004 it signed a collaboration with Sevilla FC to represent it in the Superliga, taking its name, crest and kit. Extremadura Unión Deportiva Femenino, formerly known as CF Puebla Extremadura and later as Extremadura Femenino CF, was a Spanish women football club from Almendralejo. History Extremadura Femenino was founded in Puebla de la Calzada, Badajoz in 1995 as Club de Fútbol Femenino Puebla. It won the national championship in 2000, beating AD Torrejón in the final, and it was the runner-up in 1999 in 2002, second to CD Oroquieta and Levante UD.
