The 1999–2000 English football season was Derby County F.C.'s fourth consecutive season in the FA Premier League (known as the FA Carling Premiership for sponsorship reasons). Derby ( ) is a city and unitary authority area in Derbyshire, England. It lies on the banks of the River Derwent in the south of Derbyshire, which is in the East Midlands Region. It was traditionally the county town of Derbyshire. Derby gained city status in 1977, the population size has increased by 5.1%, from around 248,800 in 2011 to 261,400 in 2021. Jacob Thaysen-Laursen (born 6 October 1971) is a Danish former professional footballer who played as a defender. Laursen most notably played for English club Derby County and won the Danish Superliga championship with Silkeborg IF and Copenhagen. He gained 25 caps for the Denmark national team, with whom he won the 1995 King Fahd Cup and participated in the 1996 European Championship and 1998 FIFA World Cup tournaments. Seth Art Maurice Johnson (born 12 March 1979) is an English retired footballer. He spent his career at Crewe Alexandra, Derby County and Leeds United, and played one international for England in 2000. Club career Johnson attended Westcliff Primary school and Dawlish comprehensive in Devon, and played for the local Dawlish youth side. He was spotted by Crewe Alexandra manager Dario Gradi on a pre-season tour of Devon. Horacio Angel Carbonari (born 2 May 1974) is a Argentine former professional footballer who played as a defender. He was nicknamed "Bazooka" due to his powerful free-kicks. Esteban Óscar Fuertes (born 26 December 1972) is an Argentine former footballer. Club career In July 1999, Fuertes was purchased for £2.3m by Jim Smith, manager of Derby County in England. He scored two early goals, the winner against Everton in the league and another against Swansea City in the League Cup. However, weeks later, he was refused entry back into Britain when immigration officials discovered that his Italian passport was forged. Derby were able to sell him on to Lens in France for £2.8m. Fuertes retired from professional football on 25 June 2012 in a match against Banfield scoring two goals. A year following his retirement, Fuertes signed a six-month contract for Bolivian side Sport Boys Warnes which had been recently promoted to the Liga de Fútbol Profesional Boliviano. Dean Constantine Sturridge (born 26 July 1973) is an English former professional footballer and football commentator for beIN Sports.
