1999–2000 Aston Villa F.C. Season
During the 1999–2000 English football season, Aston Villa competed in the FA Premier League (known as the FA Carling Premiership for sponsorship reasons). Season summary Aston Villa matched their previous season's solid sixth place finish. After starting the campaign brightly, a run of nine matches without a win dragged Villa down to 15th. However, after that Villa rallied to go 12 matches unbeaten, and thereafter lost only two more games all season to finish sixth. Villa also reached the FA Cup final for the first time in 43 years, but their hopes of winning the famous trophy for the eighth time were ended by a 1–0 defeat at the hands of Chelsea, whose success was achieved in the last game at Wembley before the old stadium was rebuilt. Aston is an area of inner Birmingham, England. Located immediately to the north-east of Central Birmingham, Aston constitutes a ward within the metropolitan authority. It is approximately 1.5 miles from Birmingham City Centre. Mark Anthony Delaney (born 13 May 1976) is a Welsh former professional footballer. He played for Carmarthen Town, Cardiff City and Aston Villa as a right back. He is also a former member of the Welsh national team, gaining 36 caps during his career. In doing so, he became the first player to progress from the Cymru Premier to the senior national side. Ian Kenneth Taylor (born 4 June 1968) is an English former professional footballer and sports television pundit. He played as a midfielder and best known for his time at Aston Villa. A midfielder, he had a fifteen-year career in the Football League and Premier League, scoring 103 goals in 577 league and cup competitions. He made the move from non-league Moor Green to Port Vale in 1992. With Vale he lifted the Football League Trophy in 1993. His impressive performances earned him a place on the Second Division PFA Team of the Year in 1992–93 & 1993–94, as well as the club's Player of the Year award in 1993.
