The Trophée des Champions (, ) is a French association football trophy contested in an annual match between the champions of Ligue 1 and the winners of the Coupe de France. It is equivalent to the Super cup, super cups found in many other countries. History The match, with its current name, was first played in 1995, but the format in French football has existed since 1949 when the French football Division 1 1948–49, 1948–49 first division champions, Stade de Reims, defeated the winners of the 1948–49 edition of the Coupe de France, RCF Paris, 4–3 at the Stade Olympique Yves-du-Manoir in Colombes. The match is co-organized by the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) and the Union Syndicale des Journalistes Sportifs de France (UJSF). From 1955 to 1973, the French Football Federation (FFF) hosted a similar match known as the ''Challenge des champions''. Jérôme Bonnissel
Jérôme Bonnissel (born 16 April 1973) is a French former professional footballer who played as a left-back. Career Born in Montpellier, Bonnissel started his career with hometown club Montpellier, and proceeded to spend three seasons with La Liga club Deportivo de La Coruña. He returned to his homeland to join Bordeaux in 1999 and stayed until he joined Rangers during the 2003 January transfer window, on a contract until the end of the season. The highlight of his time at Rangers was a start in the 2003 Scottish League Cup Final win over Celtic at Hampden Park. In the summer of 2003 he joined Fulham on a free transfer, going on to play in their memorable 3–1 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford. On Boxing Day 2003 he was injured in a league game against Southampton and never played for Fulham again before leaving the club in 2005. Élie Baup
Élie Baup (; born 17 March 1955) is a French football manager and a former footballer who played as a goalkeeper. His last post was the manager of Ligue 1 side Marseille. Managerial career 1994–2009 As the club manager of Bordeaux, Baup won the French Division 1 championships in 1999 and the Coupe de la Ligue in 2002. He was sacked on 24 October 2003 by the club president Jean-Louis Triaud. Baup signed on as the manager of Saint-Étienne in 2004, bringing to the club one of his favourite players, Pascal Feindouno. Saint-Étienne had won promotion to Ligue 1 at the end of the 2003–04 season. Pascal Feindouno
Pascal Feindouno (born 27 February 1981) is a Guinean former professional footballer who played as a winger. In his prime, he was widely recognised as one of the best footballers to come out of Guinea. He scored 30 goals in 85 appearances between 1998 and 2012 for the Guinea national team. Laurent Batlles (born 23 September 1975) is a French former professional footballer, who played as a midfielder, and current manager. Playing career Batlles was born in Nantes. In 1993, he emerged from the Toulouse academy into the senior squad, playing his first game in Division 1 on 2 April 1994 in a 1–0 away loss against Lyon. Lassina Diabaté (born 16 September 1974) is an Ivorian former professional Association football, footballer. He played for Ivory Coast national football team, Ivory Coast and a few clubs in Europe. He played primarily as a defensive midfielder but could also play as a centre back. Niša Saveljić (; born 27 March 1970) is a Montenegrin former footballer who played as a defender. At international level, Saveljić represented FR Yugoslavia in one World Cup (1998) and one European Championship (2000). Teddy Alain Vivian Richert (born 21 September 1974) is a French former footballer who played goalkeeper. He is a goalkeeper coach for Montpellier. Career Richert spent the most of his career at Sochaux-Montbéliard and was considered to be one of the most consistent goalkeepers in Ligue 1, and has performed well over the past decade. Opportunities for international football for Richert were few and far between, due to Domenech's preference of Grégory Coupet and, in the latter part of the decade, Fabien Barthez. Sylvain Wiltord
Sylvain Claude Wiltord (born 10 May 1974) is a French former professional footballer. Mainly a right winger, he also played as a centre-forward, second striker and on the left wing. Wiltord had a four-season spell at Arsenal, with whom he won two Premier League titles and two FA Cups. He also won the Ligue 1 title at Bordeaux and in each of his three consecutive seasons at Lyon. With the France national team, Wiltord earned 92 caps and scored 26 goals. He played at the 1996 Olympics, two FIFA World Cups and two UEFA European Championships. Lilian Laslandes (; born 4 September 1971) is a French former professional footballer who played as a forward. Between 1997 and 1999 he was capped seven times and scored three goals for the France national team. He ended his professional footballing career at OGC Nice in 2008. Career Early career Laslandes was born in Pauillac, Gironde. He started his professional career at the rather late age of 20, starting at the club Saint-Seurin in which he scored 10 goals in his 33 appearances for the club. Stéphane Ziani (born 9 December 1971) is a French former professional footballer who played as an attacking midfielder and is currently a manager. Club career A product of FC Nantes's renowned youth system, Ziani was a key member for hometown squad from an early age, having represented the side on two separate stints: from 1991 to 94 and from 2000 to 2004. Johan Cédric Micoud (born 24 July 1973) is a French former professional footballer who played as an attacking midfielder. He was considered a skilled midfielder and a dead-ball expert.
