The 1999 Open Gaz de France singles was the singles event of the seventh edition of the Open GDF Suez; a WTA Tier II tournament held in Paris, France. Mary Pierce was the defending champion but did not compete that year. Serena Williams won in the final 6–2, 3–6, 7–6(7–4) against Amélie Mauresmo. It was her first career singles title. Laurence Andretto (born 14 May 1973) is a former professional tennis player from France. Biography Andretto was born in the city of Revin in the Ardennes, near the Belgian border, the daughter of parents who were both teachers. A right-handed player, she competed in the main draw of the French Open every year from 1997 to 2002. On two occasions she reached the second round, the first time in the 1998 edition when she overcame then world number 33 María Vento-Kabchi, then again in 2001 against the same opponent. María Alejandra Vento-Kabchi (born 24 May 1974) is a former female tennis player from Venezuela. In July 2004, she reached her career-high singles ranking of world No. 26. Sabine Appelmans (born 22 April 1972) is a former professional tennis player from Belgium. She was Belgium's Fed Cup captain from 2007 until 2011. Alexandra Fusai (born 22 November 1973) is a former professional tennis player from France. Fusai was born in Saint-Cloud, Hauts-de-Seine.
