The Senate is the upper chamber of Nigeria's bicameral legislature, the National Assembly of Nigeria. The National Assembly (popularly referred to as NASS) is the nation's highest legislature, whose power is to make laws, is summarized in chapter one, section four of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution. It consists of 109 senators: the 36 states are each divided in 3 senatorial districts each electing one senator using the first-past-the-post electoral system; the Federal Capital Territory elects only one senator also using first-past-the-post. Anambra state is bounded by Delta State to the west, Imo State to the south, Enugu State to the east and Kogi State to the north. Chuba Okadigbo
Chuba Wilberforce Okadigbo (17 December 1941 – 25 September 2003), was a Nigerians, Nigerian philosopher, academic, writer and political scientist. He served as President of the Senate of Nigeria, Senate president of Nigeria from 1999 to 2000. Okadigbo was sometimes referred to as ''Oyi of Oyi'' in reference to his local government council area (Oyi); he also held numerous political positions in the Nigeria government and was known to have opposed the ruling People's Democratic Party (Nigeria), Peoples Democratic Party of Nigeria, which was led by President Olusegun Obasanjo, Olusẹgun Ọbasanjọ from the year 1999–2007. Michael Ajegbo
Michael Oguejiofo Ajegbo was a Nigerian lawyer and politician who was Attorney-General of Nigeria's Eastern Region during Nigeria's First Republic. Life Ajegbo was born and grew up in Obosi, Anambra State, the son of Ajegbo, a farmer and Mgbonkwo Okunwa. At Obosi, the Church Missionary Society (CMS) had an outpost that managed a primary school where Ajegbo attended, after graduation, CMS awarded him a scholarship to attended Dennis Memorial Grammar School, Onitsha. He completed his Junior Cambridge certification at Dennis, thereafter, secured employment as a clerk with the Customs Department in Lagos in 1929. Ajegbo worked with the Customs department from 1929 to 1943, prior to resigning from the department in 1943, he was transferred from Lagos to Port Harcourt. Alliance For Democracy (Nigeria)
The Alliance for Democracy is a progressive opposition political party in Nigeria. It was formed on 9 September 1998. At the 2003 legislative elections, 12 April 2003, the party won 8.8% of the popular vote and 34 out of 360 seats in the Nigerian House of Representatives and 18 out of 109 seats in the Nigerian Senate. The party was formed to promote the cause of the Yoruba people in the Nigerian federation following the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election widely believed to have been won by Chief M.
