The Italy national rugby union team (Italian: ''Squadra nazionale italiana di rugby'') represents Italy in men's international rugby union. The team is known as ''gli Azzurri'' (the light-blues). Savoy blue is the common colour of the national teams representing Italy, as it is the traditional colour of the royal House of Savoy which reigned over the Kingdom of Italy from 1860 to 1946. Italy has played international rugby since 1929, and for decades was considered one of the best European teams outside the Five Nations Championship. 1999 Rugby World Cup
The 1999 Rugby World Cup was the fourth Rugby World Cup, the quadrennial international rugby union championship. It was principally hosted by Wales, and was won by Australia. This was the first Rugby World Cup to be held in the sport's professional era. Although the majority of matches were played outside Wales (shared between England, France, Scotland and Ireland) the opening ceremony, the first match and the final were held in Cardiff. Four automatic qualification places were available for the 1999 tournament; Wales qualified automatically as hosts, and the other three places went to the top three teams from the previous World Cup in 1995: champions South Africa, runners-up New Zealand and third-placed France. Georges Coste
Georges Coste (born 7 December 1944 in Perpignan) is a French rugby union coach and former player. Biography Coste debuted playing as fly half in the local club U.S.A. Perpignan, and scored several caps for French junior national teams before his career was halted by a serious injury. As a coach, he trained U.S.A. Perpignan, Frotignan and BUC (from Barcelona) clubs, and, in 1993, he replaced Bertrand Fourcade as coach of Italian national team. Under his lead Italy obtained several historical victories against Ireland (three times in 1995-1997), Scotland (1997) and France at 1995–97 FIRA Trophy, by 40-32, the later Italy's first victory against that team. The South Western Districts Eagles are a South African rugby union team that participates in the annual Currie Cup and Vodacom Cup tournament.
