Grand Duke Of Luxembourg
The Grand Duke of Luxembourg ( lb, Groussherzog vu Lëtzebuerg, french: Grand-duc de Luxembourg, german: Großherzog von Luxemburg) is the monarchical head of state of Luxembourg. Luxembourg has been a grand duchy since 15 March 1815, when it was created from territory of the former Duchy of Luxembourg. It was in personal union with the United Kingdom of the Netherlands until 1890 under the House of Orange-Nassau. Luxembourg is the world's only sovereign grand duchy and since 1815, there have been nine monarchs, including the incumbent, Henri. Jacques Santer
Jacques Santer (born 18 May 1937) is a Luxembourg politician who served as the 9th President of the European Commission from 1995 to 1999. He served as Finance Minister of Luxembourg from 1979 until 1989, and the 20th Prime Minister of Luxembourg from 1984 to 1995, as a member of the Christian Social People's Party (CSV), which was the leading party in the Luxembourg government between 1979 and 2013. As Prime Minister of Luxembourg he also led the negotiations on the Single European Act, which effectively set aside the 20-year-old Luxembourg Compromise. Career He graduated in 1959 from the Paris Institute of Political Studies, and received his doctorate in law in 1961. From 1972 to 1974 he was a junior minister in the government. The Christian Social People's Party remained the largest party, winning 19 of the 60 seats in the Chamber of Deputies. It formed a coalition government with the Democratic Party.Nohlen & Stöver, p1236 Candidates Results By locality The CSV won pluralities in three of the four circonscriptions, falling behind the Democratic Party in Centre (around Luxembourg City) but beating the LSAP in its core Sud constituency. Much of the realignment nationally can be explained by a weakening of the LSAP's position in Sud, which has the most seats and where the LSAP's share of the vote fell from 33.5% to 29.8%, to the advantage of both the CSV and the DP. Football Club Mondercange is a football club, based in Mondercange, in south-western Luxembourg. In the 2005–06 season, Mondercange finished third in the Division of Honour. This qualified Mondercange for a play-off with FC Avenir Beggen, which they won, granting them promotion into the National Division. They were relegated the following season from the National Division, back to the Division of Honour.
