The 1999 CFL season, 1999 Hamilton Tiger-Cats season was the 42nd season for the team in the Canadian Football League and their 50th overall. The Tiger-Cats finished in 2nd place in the East Division with an 11–7 record and won the 87th Grey Cup, Grey Cup in a rematch of the 86th Grey Cup, previous year's championship game against the Calgary Stampeders. Canadian Football League East Division
The East Division is one of the two regional divisions of the Canadian Football League, its counterpart being the West Division. Although the CFL was not founded until 1958, the East Division and its clubs are descended from earlier leagues. The four teams in the division are the Toronto Argonauts, Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Montreal Alouettes, and Ottawa Redblacks. Several now-defunct teams have also played in the East Division including two teams from the United States and a large number of teams that have played in Hamilton, Montreal, and Ottawa prior to the current teams from those cities. Tony Akins (Canadian Football)
Anthony Royell Akins (born May 10, 1977) is a former Canadian football wide receiver and slotback who played for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League (CFL) from 1999 to 2003. He played in 61 regular season games, catching 121 receptions for 2,138 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also returned punts and kickoffs. Akins is a Grey Cup champion. Akins played high school football at Starkville High School before playing at East Mississippi Community College. He later transferred to Eastern Louisiana University and played for the Warhawks. After going unselected in the 1999 NFL Draft, Akins was signed by the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League but was cut before the beginning of the regular season. Éric Lapointe (born September 13, 1974) is a retired Canadian football player. He was a running back with the Montreal Alouettes in the Canadian Football League. Biography A native of Brossard, Quebec, Lapointe is an alumnus of Mount Allison University, where he played football for the Mount Allison Mounties. While playing at the university level, he was Canada's Rookie of the Year, a three-time All-Canadian, and a two-time Hec Crighton Trophy winner as Most Outstanding Player in Canada (1996 and 1998), for which he received special congratulations by the Legislature of Nova Scotia. Archie Amerson
Archie J. Amerson (born August 24, 1974) is an American former professional Canadian football running back and slotback who played in the Canadian Football League (CFL) from 1997 to 2004, appearing in 122 regular season games for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and one regular season game for the Toronto Argonauts. In 1999, he was part of the Tiger-Cats team that won the 87th Grey Cup. He missed the entire 2005 season due to injury and was released by the Tiger-Cats afterwards. At the time of his release, Amerson was one of the most prolific receivers in Tiger-Cats history, ranking third in receptions, fourth in receiving yards, fifth in kickoff return yards, and sixth in touchdowns. Cody Ledbetter
Cody Ledbetter (July 9, 1973 – September 5, 2015) was an American football player. He played college football for the New Mexico State Aggies football team in 1991 and from 1993 to 1995. As a senior in 1995, he led all NCAA major college players in total offense yards (3,724), passing attempts (453), and interceptions (20). Ledbetter later played in the Canadian Football League as a backup quarterback for the Edmonton Eskimos in 1996 and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats from 1998 to 2001. He fled from Texas back to Canada while on probation for having an improper relationship with a student while he was a teacher, and awaiting sentencing in a similar case. He was eventually extradited back to Texas in 2010 and sentenced to 12 years. He was paroled 18 months later and died on September 5, 2015 in a suicide in Aledo, Texas. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are a professional Canadian football team based in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
