Cecilia Keaveney
Cecilia Keaveney (born 27 November 1968) is a former Irish Fianna Fáil politician. She was a Teachta Dála (TD) and a Seanad Éireann, Senator from 1996 to 2011. Early life She was born in Derry, Northern Ireland. She was educated at Carndonagh Community School in the Inishowen peninsula, County Donegal, in Republic of Ireland, Ireland and then at the University of Ulster at Jordanstown, Northern Ireland. She is a former music teacher. Her father Paddy Keaveney was an Independent Fianna Fáil Teachta Dála (TD) for Donegal North-East (Dáil constituency), Donegal North-East from 1976 to 1977. She was co-opted to Donegal County Council in 1995 following his death. Patrick McGowan (Irish Politician)
Patrick McGowan (16 July 1926 – 3 October 1999) was a Fianna Fáil politician in Ireland. A farmer and potato merchant, he was an elected to Seanad Éireann from 1965 to 1981, and from 1987 to 1999. He was elected on the Agricultural Panel and served for 28 years making him one of Ireland's longest serving Seanad Éireann members. In 1970 he agreed to pay £3,900 including costs to a Donegal Businessman, Daniel Brolly, in a High Court case after he was accused of Adultery. Ian McGarvey
Ian McGarvey (born July 1929) is a former association footballer and former politician. He is a member of Donegal County Council, representing the Letterkenny Electoral Area. Due to his age (his political career peaking while an octogenarian) he is often portrayed as an underdog, "They're always writing me off. I don't worry about that", he once said after being re-elected. He has a special interest in the elderly, and has attracted attention after describing cuts to their care as a form of " euthanasia". He did a noteworthy dance after being re-elected in 2014. McGarvey has lived at Moorfield in Ramelton, County Donegal, for more than 50 years. In April 2013, in the early hours, his home was attacked with stones and with spray, prompting police intervention. McGarvey spent a year working in Germany in 1960. Joe McHugh
Joe McHugh (born 16 July 1971) is an Irish Fine Gael politician who has served as Chair of the Committee on European Union Affairs since September 2020. He has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Donegal constituency since 2016, and previously from 2007 to 2016 for the Donegal North-East constituency. He served as Minister for Education and Skills from 2018 to 2020 and as a Minister of State from 2014 to 2018, including as Government Chief Whip from 2017 to 2018. Niall Blaney
Niall Blaney (born 29 January 1974) is an Irish politician who has been a Senator for the Agricultural Panel since April 2020. He was a member of Independent Fianna Fáil until he joined Fianna Fáil in 2006, he served as a Teachta Dála (TD) for Donegal North-East from 2002 to 2011. For personal reasons, he decided not to contest the 2011 general election. Gerry McMonagle
William Gerard "Gerry" McMonagle is an Irish Sinn Féin politician. He is a member of Donegal County Council, representing the Letterkenny Electoral Area. He has appeared on national radio to discuss local events. He has also been a mayor. Arrest and trial McMonagle was arrested a week after the 1982 murder of Hugh "Lexie" Cummings - shot while driving home for lunch from his workplace in Strabane, County Tyrone. McMonagle was held in custody until the case went to trial the following year. He was then released due to papers being improperly countersigned but was arrested again while departing from court. Dessie Larkin
Dessie Larkin (c. 1970 – 18 March 2019) was an Irish Fianna Fáil politician. He was a member of Donegal County Council representing the Letterkenny electoral area from 1999 to 2014. James Harte (born 27 February 1958) is an Irish former Labour Party politician and was a member of Seanad Éireann from April 2011 to September 2015. Formerly an elected representative of Fine Gael, he left after failing to win the party's nomination for the 2007 general election, and ran unsuccessfully as an independent instead. Seán Maloney (Irish Politician)
Seán Maloney (born 9 January 1945) is a former Irish politician from Letterkenny, County Donegal. Formerly a member of the Labour Party, he joined Fine Gael in 2000. Maloney unsuccessfully contested the 1992 general election as a Labour Party candidate in the Donegal North-East constituency, but in the subsequent elections to Seanad Éireann he was elected in the Labour Panel to the 20th Seanad. He stood unsuccessfully in the Donegal North-East by-election in April 1996, and he was not elected at the 1997 general election, when his share of the first-preference votes fell from over 11% in 1992 to only 5.5%. He was defeated in subsequent Seanad elections, but in the local elections in 1991 he was elected a member of both Letterkenny Town Council and of Donegal County Council. Bernard McGlinchey
Bernard McGlinchey (18 October 1932 – 11 April 2013) was an Irish businessman and Fianna Fáil politician. He was a member of Seanad Éireann from 1961 to 1981, and from 1982 to 1983. Early life McGlinchey was born to Patrick McGlinchey and his wife Sarah (''née'' O'Boyle) in 1932, and educated at St Eunan's College. He had six older siblings and one younger one.
