Ecuadorian Serie A
The Liga Pro Betcris, simply known as the Liga Pro, or the Serie A, is a professional football league in Ecuador. At the top of the Ecuadorian football league system, it is the country's premier football competition. Contested by sixteen clubs, it operates a system of promotion and relegation with the Serie B, the lower level of the Primera Categoría. The season runs from February to December and is usually contested in multiple stages. The main sponsor is Betcris and it is known as Liga Pro Betcris. While initially not a league, the Serie A has its roots in the national championship between the top teams of Ecuador's two regional leagues. Estadio Rodrigo Paz Delgado, commonly called ''La Casa Blanca'' (Spanish for "The White House"), is a football stadium in Quito, Ecuador that is the home ground of LDU Quito. Built between 1995 and 1997, the stadium hosted its first match on March 6, 1997 in a game between LDU Quito and Atlético Mineiro of Belo Horizonte. At an altitude of 2,734 m and with a capacity of 41,575, it is the largest stadium in Quito, and the second largest in Ecuador after the Estadio Monumental Banco Pichincha in Guayaquil. Eduardo Estíguar Hurtado Roa (born 2 December 1969) is an Ecuadorian former footballer who played as a striker. He has the record of being the 3rd all-time leading scorer for the Ecuador national football team with 26 goals in 74 caps. He has played for teams in his home nation as well as Mexico, the United States, Scotland, Switzerland, Chile and Argentina. He was one of the early stars of America's Major League Soccer (MLS) scoring the second most goals in the league's opening season and helping the Los Angeles Galaxy make a run for the playoffs. He was active for nearly 20 years, retiring at age 40 in 2010. Club Deportivo El Nacional (until 2018 ''Club Especializado de Alto Rendimiento El Nacional'') is an Ecuadorian sports club from Quito, known best for their professional football team. The team currently plays in the Serie A, the first-tier football league in the country after gaining promotion in 2022. El Nacional has thirteen national championships (one less than Emelec and three less than Barcelona).
