1999 Australian Individual Speedway Championship
The 1999 Australian Individual Speedway Championship was held at the Olympic Park Speedway in Mildura, Victoria on 13 February 1999. Former World #3 Todd Wiltshire won his first Australian Championship defeating Jason Lyons in a runoff after both finished on 14 points. Adelaide's Nigel Sadler finished third after defeating Perth's Frank Smart and local youngster Travis McGowan in a runoff after all three riders finished on 10 points. Despite the championship being run on his home track, defending champion Leigh Adams did not ride in the Australian Final for the first time since 1991 where he had been forced to withdraw after breaking his wrist in a crash in Adelaide three weeks before the event. Australian Individual Speedway Championship
The Australian Solo Championship is a motorcycle speedway championship held each year to determine the Australian national champion. It is organised by Motorcycling Australia (MA) and is the oldest continuously running national speedway championship in the world having been run since 1926 with the exception of 1942-1945 when racing was suspended during World War II and 1955-1961 when the championship was not held. The first Australian Solo Championship in 1926 was held at the Newcastle Showground in Newcastle. It was won by American rider Cecil Brown from Mick Brennan and Roy Hindle. Legendary Danish rider Ole Olsen (1976) and Australia's own Jason Crump (2007) are the only riders who have won the championship while being the reigning Speedway World Champion. Rusty Harrison
Russell Wade "Rusty" Harrison (born 11 October 1981 in Elizabeth, South Australia) is an Australian speedway rider. Career summary Harrison won the Australian Under-16 Championship in 1995 in Perth and again in 1997 at his home track in Adelaide (Sidewinders Speedway), before going on to be the Australian Under-21 Champion in 2001, winning again at home in Adelaide, this time at the Gillman Speedway. In 2002 he was third in the Australian Under-21 Championship at Gillman behind winner Travis McGowan and second placed Cameron Woodward. Harrison also won the South Australian Championship in 2003 Gillman. As of 2015, Harrison's 2003 win was the last time a South Australian born rider has won the SA Championship (Adelaide based, but Darwin born Rory Schlein would win the title from 2004-2007). Australia National Speedway Team
Australia is one of the major teams in international motorcycle speedway with the country regarded as the birthplace of the sport in the 1920s. The current team is managed by former rider Mark Lemon, and captained by 2012 World Champion Chris Holder.
