1999 America East Conference Baseball Tournament
The 1999 America East Conference baseball tournament was held from May 21 through 23 at Frawley Stadium in Wilmington, Delaware. The top four regular season finishers of the league's eight teams qualified for the double-elimination tournament. In the championship game, second-seeded Delaware defeated first-seeded Towson, 6-3, to win its second consecutive and fourth overall tournament championship. As a result, Delaware received the America East's automatic bid to the 1999 NCAA tournament. Seeding The top four finishers from the regular season were seeded one through four based on conference winning percentage only. They then played in a double-elimination format. In the first round, the one and four seeds were matched up in one game, while the two and three seeds were matched up in the other. Double-elimination
A double-elimination tournament is a type of elimination tournament competition in which a participant ceases to be eligible to win the tournament's championship upon having lost ''two'' games or matches. It stands in contrast to a single-elimination tournament, in which only ''one'' defeat results in elimination. One method of arranging a double-elimination tournament is to break the competitors into two sets of brackets, the ''winners' bracket'' and ''losers' bracket'' (''W'' and ''L'' brackets for short; also referred to as ''championship bracket'' and ''elimination bracket'', ''upper bracket'' and ''lower bracket'', or ''main bracket'' and ''repechage'') after the first round. The first-round winners proceed into the W bracket and the losers proceed into the L bracket. Hofstra Pride Baseball
The Hofstra Pride baseball team is the varsity intercollegiate baseball team of Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York, United States. The team competes in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I and are members of the Colonial Athletic Association. The Pride play home games at University Field in Hempstead.
