''1999'' is the debut studio album by French electronic music duo Cassius, released on 25 January 1999 by Virgin Records. Background The album was written and produced by Cassius members Philippe Zdar and Boombass. ''1999'' reached number 28 in the UK Albums Chart. As of September 2006 the album has shipped 260,000 units worldwide according to their label. Reception John Bush of AllMusic qualified the album as "A sleek and intelligent dance record", while James P. Wisdom of Pitchfork wrote: "Maybe I need some coke to truly delight in the seething vacancy of ''1999'', but I'm pretty sure that it's clearly not ''happening''." Cassius (band)
Cassius was a French musical duo consisting of producers Philippe Cerboneschi and Hubert Blanc-Francard, better known as Zdar and Boombass (or sometimes Philippe Zdar and Hubert Boombass). Under its different incarnations the duo is likened to the "French Touch" movement of electronic music in the second half of the 1990s. Members Boombass Hubert Blanc-Francard (; aka Boombass), born 31 March 1967, is a French musician and producer. He is the son of sound engineer Dominique Blanc-Francard and the older brother of the French musician Mathieu Blanc-Francard, better known by his stage name Sinclair. Zdar Philippe Cerboneschi (, ; aka Zdar; born 28 January 1967 in Aix-les-Bains and died 19 June 2019 in Paris) was a French musician, producer and sound engineer, of Italian descent. The Weather Girls are an American female duo whose best-known line-up comprised Martha Wash and Izora Armstead. Formed in 1976 in San Francisco, California, The Weather Girls members began their musical career as Two Tons O' Fun, the female backup duo for disco singer Sylvester. After years of limited success singing background for Sylvester, the duo was signed in 1979 to Fantasy Records. The Weather Girls were launched into mainstream recognition following the release of their best-selling single, "It's Raining Men" (1982), which became their first number-one dance song. Crown Heights Affair are an American R&B / funk / disco group from Brooklyn, New York City, founded in 1967. Career Originally known as Ben Iverson and the Nue Dey Express on Britne Records, founded by then-bassist Donnie Linton, the group was renamed for a neighborhood in Brooklyn. The line-up consisted of Phillip Thomas (vocals), William Anderson (guitar/vocals), Howard Young (keyboards), Bert Reid and James "Ajax" Baynard (trumpets), Raymond Reid (trombone), Arnold 'Muki' Wilson (bass), Julius Dilligard Jr. (trombone), and Raymond Rock (drums, percussion). LaDonna Adrian Gaines (December 31, 1948May 17, 2012), known professionally as Donna Summer, was an American singer and songwriter. Gang Starr was an American hip hop duo, consisting of Texas record producer DJ Premier and Massachusetts rapper Guru. For the entirety of their association, they were based out of Brooklyn, New York. Gang Starr was at its height from 1989 to 2003, and are considered one of the best MC-and-producer duos in hip hop history. They are recognized for being one of the pioneers of jazz rap. The Family Stand is an American soul and R&B group based in New York City, active since the late 1980s, consisting of Sandra St. Victor, Peter Lord Moreland, and V. Jeffrey Smith.
