1998–99 Gonzaga Bulldogs Men's Basketball Team
The 1998–99 Gonzaga Bulldogs men's basketball team represented Gonzaga University in the West Coast Conference (WCC) during the 1998–99 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. Led by second-year head coach Dan Monson, the Bulldogs were overall in the regular season and played their home games on campus at the Charlotte Y. Martin Centre in Spokane, Washington. The top-seeded Zags won the conference tournament at Santa Clara, and were seeded tenth in the West regional of the NCAA tournament. Unranked and sent to Seattle, they recorded the program's first NCAA tournament wins with upsets of Minnesota and #7 Stanford, the region's second seed. Dan Monson
Daniel Lloyd Monson (born October 6, 1961) is an American college basketball coach serving as the head coach at Long Beach State since April 2007. Previously he was head coach at Minnesota for over seven seasons (1999–2006), reaching postseason play five times. Before coaching the Gophers, he was the head coach at Gonzaga for two seasons, leading the Zags on an improbable run to the Elite Eight during his last season. Early years Monson is the son of college basketball coach Don Monson, and spent most of his early years in eastern Washington, where his father was a successful high school head coach in Cheney and Pasco for 18 seasons. Battle Ground is a city in Clark County, Washington, United States. The population was 20,743 at the 2020 census. Between 2000 and 2005, Battle Ground ranked fourth in the state for population growth, out of 279 eligible incorporated communities. As of 2021, its population is 21,119.
