1998–99 FIS Cross-Country World Cup
The 1998–99 FIS Cross-Country World Cup was the 18th official FIS Cross-Country World Cup, World Cup season in cross-country skiing (sport), cross-country skiing for men and women. The season began in Muonio, Finland on 28 November 1998 and finished at Holmenkollen, Oslo, Norway on 20 March 1999. Bjørn Dæhlie of Norway won the overall men's cup. Bente Skari, Bente Martinsen of Norway won the women's cup on more victories than Stefania Belmondo of Italy after both finished the season achieving 768 points. The 1998–99 season was the last season the results from FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, World Championships counted in the overall World Cup standings. Bjørn Dæhlie
Bjørn Erlend Dæhlie (born 19 June 1967) is a Norwegian businessman and retired cross-country skier. From 1992 to 1999, Dæhlie won the Nordic World Cup six times, finishing second in 1994 and 1998. Dæhlie won a total of 29 medals in the Olympics and World Championships between 1991 and 1999, making him the most successful male cross-country skier in history. During his career, Dæhlie measured a VO2 max of 96 ml/kg/min. Dæhlie's result was achieved out of season, and physiologist Erlend Hem who was responsible for the testing stated that he would not discount the possibility of the skier passing 100 ml/kg/min at his absolute peak. FIS Nordic World Ski Championships
The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships is a biennial Nordic skiing event organized by the International Ski Federation (FIS). The World Championships was started in 1925 for men and opened for women's participation in 1954. World Championship events include Nordic skiing's three disciplines: cross-country skiing, ski jumping, and Nordic combined (the latter being a combination sport consisting of both cross-country and ski jumping). The Winter Olympics from 1924 to 1980 were also the Nordic World Ski Championships (except in the Nordic combined events). This meant that the Olympic champions were also World champions and received an additional medal from the International Ski Federation (FIS). Alexey Prokurorov
Alexey Alexeyevich Prokurorov (; 25 March 1964 – 10 October 2008) was a Soviet/Russian cross-country skier who competed in the late 1980s and 1990s for both the Soviet Union and Russia. Career Prokurorov was born in the village of Mishino of Vladimir Oblast, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union. Prokurorov's biggest successes were winning the gold medal in the 30 km freestyle and the silver medal in the 4 × 10 km relay at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary. At the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, Prokurorov earned a total of six medals. Jari Olavi Isometsä (born 11 September 1968) is a Finland, Finnish former cross-country skiing (sport), cross-country skier who competed from 1990 to 2006. Espen Bjervig
Espen Bjervig (born 30 June 1972) is a former Norwegian cross-country skier who competed from 1995 to 2004. He won a silver medal in the 4 × 10 km relay at the 1999 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Ramsau and earned his best individual finish of eight in the 10 km event in those same championships. Peter Schlickenrieder (born 16 February 1970 in Tegernsee) is a German cross-country skier who competed from 1992 to 2002. He earned a silver in the individual sprint at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. Schlickenrieder's best finish at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships was a sixth in the individual sprint event in 2001. Mathias Fredriksson
Mathias Fredriksson (born 11 February 1973 in Uddevalla, Västra Götaland County) is a Swedish former cross-country skier who has competed since 1993. He earned a bronze medal in the 4 × 10 km relay at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. Fredriksson's best Olympic finish was at these same Olympics with a tenth in the 50 km event. Fredriksson has won four medals at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships; two silvers (15 km and 4 × 10 km: both 2001) and two bronzes (4 × 10 km relay: 2003, 2007).
