The Super League Greece 1 ( el, Ελληνική Σούπερ Λιγκ 1), or Super League 1, is the highest professional association football league in Greece. The league was formed on 16 July 2006 and replaced ''Alpha Ethniki'' at the top of the Greek football league system. It consists of 14 teams and runs from August to May, with teams playing 26 games. As of May 2022, Super League Greece is ranked 15th in the UEFA ranking of leagues, based on performances in European competitions over the last five years. Since the foundation of the first official Panhellenic Championship in 1927, only six clubs have won the title. The current champions are Olympiacos, based in Piraeus. Georgios Kamaras Stadium
Georgios Kamaras Stadium ( el, Στάδιο Γεώργιος Καμάρας) is a multi-purpose stadium in Athens, Greece. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home stadium of Apollon Smyrnis. The stadium holds 14,200 and was built in 1948. It was used by Olympiacos for about 2 years (2002–2004) as home ground, due to the construction of their new stadium Karaiskaki. Since 2005. the stadium is named Georgios Kamaras, in honour of Georgios Kamaras, old glorious player of Apollon. History The stadium was built in 1948 and its inauguration took place on October 17th that year with the presence of some 10,000 fans. In 2002, Olympiacos undertook a radical renovation to use it as the temporary headquarters of its team until the construction of the new "Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium" was completed, replacing the old one in Neo Faliro, Piraeus. Andreas Michalopoulos ( el, Ανδρέας Μιχαλόπουλος; 23 February 1948 – 4 January 2022) was a Greek footballer who played as a striker for Panachaiki. Career He played for Panachaiki when the team qualified for the 1973–74 UEFA Cup. Before the 1973–74 UEFA Cup game against Grazer AK, an injury seemed to put an early end to his career. Michalopoulos managed to help his team some more years, but he only played 48 games in five seasons until 1979, when he officially retired. He appeared once for the Greece national team, on 21 February 1973 against Spain. Greece lost 3–1 in the World Cup qualification match. Nikos Goumas Stadium ( el, Στάδιο Νίκος Γκούμας) was a multi-purpose stadium in Nea Filadelfeia, a northwestern suburb of Athens, Greece. It was used mostly for football matches and was the home stadium of AEK Athens F.C. It is now replaced by Agia Sophia Stadium built at the same site. Name The stadium was named "AEK Stadium" ( el, Γήπεδο ΑΕΚ) but was also known as "Nea Filadelfeia Stadium" ( el, Στάδιο Νέας Φιλαδέλφειας).
