The 1998 Grand Prix de Suisse was the 83rd edition of the Züri-Metzgete road cycling one day race. It was held on 23 August 1998 as part of the 1998 UCI Road World Cup. 1998 UCI Road World Cup
The 1998 UCI Road World Cup was the tenth edition of the UCI Road World Cup, cycling's season-long competition of the ten top-tier classic cycle races, one-day classics. It was won by Italian classics specialist Michele Bartoli of the team. Italian team won the team competition and placed four riders in the individual top-ten. Bartoli moved into the lead of the World Cup after his win in 1998 Liège–Bastogne–Liège, Liège–Bastogne–Liège, and claimed a second event win at the Züri-Metzgete, Grand Prix de Suisse. He ended the competition with 416 points, more than double the points total of the runner-up, Léon van Bon and a competition record with the point system in place since 1997 to 2004. Andrea Tafi (cyclist)
Andrea Tafi (born 7 May 1966, in Fucecchio) is an Italian former road bicycle racer who retired from his professional career in 2005. Tafi's propensity to perform best in the harder races earned him the nickname "Il Gladiatore" (English: "The Gladiator"). Tafi specialized in the cobbled Spring Classics such as Paris–Roubaix which he won in 1999, and Tour of Flanders which he won in 2002. He won the Giro di Lombardia in 1996 and the Italian National Championship in 1998. Career The most successful part of Tafi's career was spent with the Italian super-squad . Dario Frigo (born 18 September 1973) is an Italian former professional road bicycle racer. Career Frigo's transition to professional began at the 1995 Giro del Veneto, riding as a stagiaire for . In 1996, he was officially signed to Saeco on a four-year contract. In 1999, he obtained his first victory at the Dekra Open, in Germany. In 2000, he joined the Fassa Bortolo team and achieved success, winning the Giro di Campania, as well as a stage of the Giro del Trentino. He also finished second overall in the Tour de Suisse. More success came for him in early 2001, when he won the time trial at the Col d'Èze and the overall classification of Paris–Nice, as well as the general classification of the Tour de Romandie. Robert Julich ( ), popularly called Bobby Julich, (born on November 18, 1971, in Corpus Christi, Texas) is an American former professional road bicycle racer who last rode for Team CSC in the UCI ProTour racing series.
