1998 World Indoor Bowls Championship
The 1998 SAGA World World Indoor Bowls Championship was held at Preston Guild Hall, Preston, England, from 13–23 January 1998. In the Singles the unseeded Paul Foster, a 100-1 outsider won his first title beating Mervyn King in the final. In the Pairs Richard Corsie and Graham Robertson won defeating Andy Thomson and Gary Smith in the final. The Women's World Championship took place at the Selwyn Samuel Centre in Llanelli from April 22–28. The event was won by Caroline McAllister. Graham Robertson (bowls)
Graham Robertson (born 1957) is a former Scottish international indoor and lawn bowler. He is the second most capped Scottish international of all time. He was inducted into the Scottish Indoor Bowling Hall of Fame in 2016 and is a former national coach. Bowls career He won a gold medal in the fours with Angus Blair, Willie Wood and Alex Marshall at the 1992 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Worthing. Robertson won the men's pairs at the 1998 World Indoor Bowls Championship with bowls partner Richard Corsie. He has represented Scotland three times at the Commonwealth Games from 1986-1994. John Price (bowls)
John Haydn Price is a former Welsh international lawn and indoor bowler and current bowls commentator. Bowls career Early life Brought into the game by his grandparents at the age of 10, and as a schoolboy, he initially played only during the summer holidays, winning a couple of open tournaments in partnership with his father Harry. He started to take bowls seriously after earning his first Wales cap in 1979. Price is one of the founder members of both the Professional Bowls Association and also the World Bowls Tour, and is a timeless ace on the portable rink, . Neil Booth
Neil Booth (born 19 February 1968) is a former Northern Irish international lawn and indoor bowler and bowls team coach and manager. Bowls career Booth has won three World Championship medals starting with the gold medal in the fours at the 2004 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Ayr with Jonathan Ross, Noel Graham and Jim Baker. This was followed by two bronze medals in 2012. In addition he has won four Commonwealth Games medals. He won the gold medal in the fours at the 1998 Kuala Lumpur with Gary McCloy, Ian McClure and Martin McHugh. He won a bronze in 2002, a silver medal in 2006 and another silver in 2014. Gary Samuel McCloy (born 28 May 1969) is an Irish international lawn and indoor bowler. Bowls career He won a bronze medal in the fours at the 2000 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Johannesburg. He was also part of the fours team that secured the gold medal for Northern Ireland at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the other members were Ian McClure, Martin McHugh and Neil Booth. Greg Harlow
Greg Harlow (born 6 July 1968) is an English international indoor bowls player. Bowls career World Indoor Championships Born in Ely, Greg Harlow rose to the world ranking of number one indoors during 2006. Despite being world number one it was not until 2007 that he won his first title at the World Indoor Bowls Championships. That victory was the mixed pairs at the 2007 World Indoor Bowls Championship with Jo Morris. His finest moment arrived when winning the 2010 World Indoor Bowls Championship where he defeated Stewart Anderson of Scotland in the final. Robert Newman (born 1975) is a former English international bowls player. Bowls career Newman won three bronze medals in the World Bowls Championship. The first two in the triples and fours at the 2004 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Ayr followed by another bronze in the fours at the 2008 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Christchurch. Noel Kennedy (born 1964) is a British born, former Hong Kong international lawn bowler. Mark McMahon is a Scottish born indoor and lawn bowls player, who has represented England, Hong Kong and Australia at international level. Bowls Outdoors He has had a nomadic career being born in Scotland but representing Hong Kong until 1995 and then England and Australia at international level. Jason Greenslade
Jason John Greenslade (born 6 March 1970) is a Welsh international indoor and lawn bowler. After moving to Guernsey in 2022 he later represented them in competition. Bowls career Outdoors Greenslade took up bowling at the age of eight after his parents (both Welsh internationals) introduced him to the sport. In 2001, he won the Hong Kong International Bowls Classic singles title. Ian David Schuback (born 4 September 1952) is a former Australian lawn and indoor bowler. Biography Schuback bowled for the Coolangatta club in Queensland and was also a former professional tennis coach. He started bowling in 1980 after watching the Melbourne World Outdoor Championships.
