1998 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships
The 1998 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships were held in Mont-Sainte-Anne, Quebec, Canada from 14 to 20 September 1998. The disciplines included were cross-country and downhill. The event was the 9th edition of the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships and the second to be held in Canada, following the 1992 World Championships in Bromont. Mont-Sainte-Anne
Mont-Sainte-Anne is a ski resort in eastern Canada, located in the town of Beaupré, Quebec, about northeast of Quebec City. The mountain is part of the Laurentian mountain chain and has a summit elevation of above sea level with a vertical drop of . For day skiing, there are 71 available downhill ski trails covering the southern, northern and western sides of the mountain. For night skiing, there are 19 trails covering the southern part of the mountain only. It is the highest vertical for night skiing in Canada. The average natural snowfall at the summit is . History Ten trails and four lifts (including a gondola) were featured on the mountain inauguration day in 1966 on January 16. That year, the resort was already making its appearance on the world scene with the Du Maurier International, followed the next year by the first Canadian Winter Games. Nathan Rennie (born 31 May 1981) is an Australian professional downhill mountain bike racer. He started riding at the age of 5. He was junior downhill world champion in 1999 and won the bronze medal in the elite category at the 2006 world championships. Nicolas Vouilloz (born 8 February 1976) is a French professional mountain biker and former professional rally driver. He won the Downhill Mountain Bike World Championships ten times, starting as a junior in 1992 and finishing his career with his 10th victory in 2002, only placing lower in 2000 finishing 8th.
