1998 Speedway Grand Prix Qualification
The 1998 Speedway Grand Prix Qualification or GP Challenge was a series of motorcycle speedway meetings used to determine the 16 riders that qualified for the 1998 Speedway Grand Prix to join the other 8 riders that finished in the leading positions from the 1997 Speedway Grand Prix. There was a late change to the qualifying when the Grand Prix increased to 24 permanent riders. Therefore 4 riders would qualify straight from the Intercontinental and Continental finals and 9 riders would qualify through the GP Challenge (originally just 4). The final 3 GP places would go to wildcards. Piotr Protasiewicz won the GP Challenge. Speedway Grand Prix Qualification
The Speedway Grand Prix Challenge or Speedway Grand Prix Qualification is an annual speedway qualifying tournament to determine the qualifiers for the Speedway Grand Prix, which is the World Championship of speedway. History From 1995 the Individual World Championship was replaced by the Grand Prix system. The 17 qualifiers for the 1995 Grand Prix were the top 10 from the 1994 World final, 5 seeds and 2 wildcards. From 1996, the leading riders from each Grand Prix series would automatically qualifying for the following year's event. The remaining places would be filled by the leading riders in the Challenge event and qualifiers from the both the Continental Speedway Final and Intercontinental Final. However, the latter two finals would come to end in 2000 and 2001 respectively. Sebastian Ułamek
Sebastian Ułamek (born 20 November 1975) is a former motorcycle speedway rider from Poland. He was a European individual Champion. Career Ułamek rode in the Polish leagues for his home club Włókniarz Częstochowa from 1992 until 1998 and then Gdańsk from 1999 to 2000 (the 2000 season was in the Ekstraliga). He began to establish himself as one of the leading riders and participated in his first Grand Prix series during the 1998 Speedway Grand Prix season. He made his British league debut in 2000, when riding several times for Wolverhampton Wolves before returning to Poland to ride for Wrocław. On 12 August 2001 he won the Continental Final, which formed part of the 2002 Speedway Grand Prix Qualification. He aslso won a silver medal with Poland at the 2001 Speedway World Cup. Stéphane Trésarrieu (born 27 February 1975) is a former motorcycle racer from France, who competed in Grasstrack, Longtrack and motorcycle speedway. He is a three times speedway champion of France and eight times grasstrack champion of France. Career Stéphane raced in Britain in 2003, when he rode for the Isle of Wight Islanders during the 2003 Premier League speedway season. He won seven French caps. In 2018, he was part of the French team, along with Dimitri Bergé, Mathieu Trésarrieu and David Bellego, that won the 2018 Team Long Track World Championship. In 2022, he was part of the French team, along with Mathieu Trésarrieu and Mathias Trésarrieu, that won the bronze medal at the 2022 Team Long Track World Championship.
