1998 Skate America
The 1998 Skate America was the first event of six in the 1998–99 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating, a senior-level international invitational competition series. It was held at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan on October 29 – November 1. Medals were awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing Ice dance (sometimes referred to as ice dancing) is a discipline of figure skating that historically draws from ballroom dancing. ISU Grand Prix Of Figure Skating
The ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating (known as ISU Champions Series from 1995 to 1997) is a series of senior international figure skating competitions organized by the International Skating Union. The invitational series was inaugurated in 1995, incorporating several previously existing events. Medals are awarded in the disciplines of single skating, men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. The junior-level equivalent is the ISU Junior Grand Prix. 1998–99 Grand Prix Of Figure Skating Final
The 1998–99 Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final was an elite figure skating competition held in Saint Petersburg, Russia from March 5 through 7, 1999. Medals were awarded in men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. The Grand Prix Final was the culminating event of the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating series, which consisted of Skate America, Skate Canada International, Sparkassen Cup on Ice, Trophée Lalique, Cup of Russia, and NHK Trophy competitions. Angela Nikodinov
Angela Nikodinov ( bg, Анжела Никодинов; born May 9, 1980), is a Bulgarian-American former figure skater. She was the 2000 Four Continents champion and won four medals on the Grand Prix series, including gold at the 2004 Skate America Personal life Born in Spartanburg, South Carolina, Angela Nikodinov moved with her family to southern California when she was a child. She was raised in San Pedro, Los Angeles, California. She is the daughter of Bulgarian immigrants and speaks Bulgarian fluently. Elena Sokolova
Elena Sergeyevna Sokolova (russian: Елена Сергеевна Соколова; born 15 February 1980) is a Russian former competitive figure skater. She is the 2003 World silver medalist, a three-time European medalist (2003–2004, 2006), and a three-time Russian national champion (2003–2004, 2006). Personal life Elena Sokolova was born on 15 February 1980 in Moscow. She studied at the Institute for Physical Culture in Moscow. Career Sokolova began skating at age four — following bronchitis and generally poor health, doctors told her parents that she should take up a physical activity. Early in her career, Sokolova was coached by V. Tumanov. In 1997, she switched to Marina Kudriavtseva and Viktor Kudriavtsev and was coached by them in Moscow until 2000 when she moved to Alexei Mishin in Saint Petersburg. Yourii Litvinov
Juri Litvinov (also romanized as Yuriy Litvinov, born May 6, 1978) is a Kazakhstani former competitive figure skater. He is a multiple national champion of Kazakhstan and competed at the 1998 Winter Olympics, World Championships, and Four Continents Championships. He moved to the United States with his then-coach Sergei (Sergey) Korovin in 1996. Litvinov retired from competition in 2003. Frédéric Dambier
Frédéric Dambier (born 26 December 1977) is a French figure skater. He is a four-time French national silver medalist and competed at two Olympic Games. He twice placed fourth at the European Figure Skating Championships. He is the first French skater to land a quadruple salchow in competition. Career Dambier started skating when he was about six or seven years old when a neighbor took him to the small ice rink of Joué les Tours. In practice, he landed his first triple jump, the salchow, at 14, and his first quad salchow when he was 19. He became the first French skater to perform the quad salchow in competition when he landed it at the 1999 Ondrej Nepela Memorial. Shepherd Walton Clark (born March 1, 1971) is a famous American competitive figure skater and the reigning World Figure Champion of The World Figure Sport Society. In 2022, he defended his World Figure Championship title, becoming The 2022 World Figure & Fancy Skating Champion, as well as the overall World Figure & Fancy Skating Champion. Yamato Tamura
is a Japanese figure skating coach and former competitor. As a single skater, he is a two-time Japanese national champion and represented Japan at the 1998 Winter Olympics, placing 17th. Career As a competitor Competing in single skating, Tamura won two Japanese national titles. He was selected to represent Japan at the 1998 Winter Olympics and placed 17th. Derrick Delmore (born December 12, 1978) is an American figure skater. He is the 1998 World Junior champion, the 2000 Nebelhorn Trophy silver medalist, 2000 Karl Schäfer Memorial bronze medalist, and 1999 U.S. National Collegiate champion. Personal life Derrick Delmore was born on December 12, 1978 at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland. In 1995, he was awarded the Paderewski medal for a decade of playing classical piano at the national level.
