1998 Richmond Spiders Football Team
The 1998 Richmond Spiders football team represented the University of Richmond during the 1998 NCAA Division I-AA football season. It was the program's 115th season and they finished as Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10) champions after posting a 7–1 record in conference play. The Spiders earned a berth as the #3 seed into the 16-team Division I-AA playoffs, but were upset in the first round to 14-seed Lehigh, 23–24. Richmond was led by fourth-year head coach Jim Reid. Jim Reid (American Football)
James T. Reid (born December 1, 1950) is an American football coach and former player. He is the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Massachusetts Maritime Academy, a position he has held since 2022. Reid served as head football coach at the University of Massachusetts Amherst (UMass) from 1986 to 1991, University of Richmond from 1995 through 2003, and Virginia Military Institute (VMI) from 2006 until 2007, compiling an overall college football record of 87–101–3. Playing career Reid played football at the University of Maine before graduating in 1973. Coaching career UMass Beginning in 1973, Reid spent 19 years coaching at University of Massachusetts Amherst (UMass), where he spent two seasons as a graduate assistant, eleven seasons as an assistant coach, and six seasons as the head coach. 1998 Penn Quakers Football Team
The 1998 Penn Quakers football team was an American football team that represented the University of Pennsylvania during the 1998 NCAA Division I-AA football season. A year after having to forfeit all of its Ivy League wins, Penn won the conference championship in 1998. Penn played its home games at Franklin Field adjacent to the university's campus in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Orono, Maine
Orono () is a town in Penobscot County, Maine, United States. Located on the Penobscot and Stillwater rivers, it was first settled by American colonists in 1774. They named it in honor of Chief Joseph Orono, a sachem of the indigenous Penobscot nation who long occupied this territory. In the nineteenth century, the town became a center of the lumber industry. Morse Field at Harold Alfond Sports Stadium is a 10,000-seat multi-purpose stadium in Orono, Maine. The stadium opened as Alumni Field in 1947 and underwent extensive renovations from 1996 to 1998. It is home to the University of Maine Black Bears football team. The wood and steel grandstands, built in the 1940s, were condemned and demolished in 1996, replaced with the current east grandstand, along with a temporary structure on the west side, adjacent to Alfond Arena. Wildcat Stadium is an 11,015-seat open-air multi-purpose stadium in Durham, New Hampshire, on the campus of the University of New Hampshire (UNH). It is home to the New Hampshire Wildcats football, lacrosse and track and field varsity teams. The stadium, which runs west-northwest, consists of a FieldTurf playing surface surrounded by a 400-metre track.
