1998 NatWest Trophy
The 1998 NatWest Trophy was the 18th NatWest Trophy. It was an English limited overs county cricket tournament which was held between 24 June and 5 September 1998. The tournament was won by Lancashire County Cricket Club who defeated Derbyshire County Cricket Club by 9 wickets in the final at Lord's. This was the final version of the tournament to be played with 60 overs per side. Format The 18 first-class counties, were joined by eleven Minor Counties: Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Cheshire, Cumberland, Devon, Dorset, Herefordshire, Norfolk, Staffordshire and Wales Minor Counties. The Ireland national cricket team, Scotland national cricket team and the Netherlands national cricket team also participated. Teams who won in the first round progressed to the second round. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is the Sports governing body, national governing body of cricket in England and Wales. It was formed on 1 January 1997 as a single governing body to combine the roles formerly fulfilled by the Test and County Cricket Board, the National Cricket Association and the Cricket Council. Devon County Cricket Club
Devon County Cricket Club (Devon Cricket) is one of 20 minor county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Devon. The team is currently a member of the National Counties Championship Western Division Two and plays in the NCCA Knockout Trophy. Devon played List A matches occasionally from 1969 until 2005 but is not classified as a List A team 'per se'. The Western Division Two of the National Counties Championship is made up of five teams with each team playing the others in three-day fixtures throughout the season. Devon also play in the 50-overs-a-side MCCA Knock Out Trophy. Paul Prichard
Paul Prichard (born 7 January 1965) is an English cricket coach and retired cricketer. A former Dorset coach, he has joined the Hampshire coaching staff for the 2022 season. He will also lead the Southern Vipers. He played for Essex as a right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-pace bowler for seventeen years. He was club captain from 1995 to 1998 before spending the last three years of his playing career at Berkshire. Prichard first played for Essex Schools at the age of nine, and was nurtured at the Hutton club by his father, a prominent Hutton player, and Doug Pont. He graduated from the Essex Schools sides to England Schools, and moved to the more prominent Orsett and Thurrock club. He played in five Youth Test Matches and 4 Youth One-Day Internationals between 1981 and 1983. Ronnie Irani
Ronald Charles Irani (born 26 October 1971) is a former England cricketer who played Tests and ODIs for England. He played only three Tests for England, with decidedly mixed success, but found a niche in One Day Internationals, where he gained much praise for his performances. He spent most of his career at Essex County Cricket Club, latterly as captain, after starting at Lancashire. He is of Irani descent, the Iranis being a community of Persian Zoroastrians who immigrated to India during the British Raj. Irani was a genuine all-rounder until a knee injury in 2003 forced him to stop bowling and play as a specialist batsman. The recurring nature of this injury led to Irani being forced to retire from first-class cricket in June 2007. Not Out
In cricket, a batter is not out if they come out to bat in an innings and have not been dismissed by the end of an innings. The batter is also ''not out'' while their innings is still in progress. Occurrence At least one batter is not out at the end of every innings, because once ten batters are out, the eleventh has no partner to bat on with so the innings ends. Usually two batters finish not out if the batting side declares in first-class cricket, and often at the end of the scheduled number of overs in limited overs cricket. Batters further down the batting order than the not out batters do not come out to the crease at all and are noted as ''did not bat'' rather than ''not out''; by contrast, a batter who comes to the crease but faces no balls is ''not out''. Stuart Stoneman
Stuart Andrew Stoneman (born 12 August 1971) is a former English cricketer. Stoneman was a right-handed batsman who bowled right-arm fast-medium. He was born in Hammersmith, London. Stoneman made his debut for Cheshire in the 1998 Minor Counties Championship against Oxfordshire. From 1998 to 1999, he represented the county in 8 Championship matches, the last of which came against Wales Minor Counties. He made his MCCA Knockout Trophy debut for the county in 1998 against Cumberland. From 1998 to 2000, he represented the county in 13 Trophy matches, the last of which came against Herefordshire. Stoneman made his debut in List A cricket for Cheshire against Essex in the 1998 NatWest Trophy. Essex County Cricket Club
Essex County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Essex. Founded in 1876, the club had minor county status until 1894 when it was promoted to first-class status pending its entry into the County Championship in 1895, since then the team has played in every top-level domestic cricket competition in England. Essex currently play all their home games at the County Cricket Ground, Chelmsford. Wales National County Cricket Club is one of twenty National county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents all of the historic counties of Wales except Glamorgan and is currently the only non-English member of the National Counties Cricket Championship.
