The Kentucky Derby is a horse race held annually in Louisville, Kentucky, United States, almost always on the first Saturday in May, capping the two-week-long Kentucky Derby Festival. The competition is a Grade I stakes race for three-year-old Thoroughbreds at a distance of at Churchill Downs. Colts and geldings carry and fillies . Corey S. Nakatani (born October 21, 1970 in Covina, California, United States) is an American Thoroughbred horse racing jockey. He got his big break in 1990 when he rode Itsallgreektome to win big stakes races. Nakatani has long resided on the Southern California circuit of Santa Anita Park, Hollywood Park, and Del Mar racetrack. Gonçalino Feijó de Almeida (born January 28, 1956, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) is a jockey in United States, American Thoroughbred horse race, Thoroughbred horse racing. Nationalore
Nationalore (1995–2000) was a black thoroughbred gelding who contended the 1998 Kentucky Derby, despite having won none of his previous fifteen races, a record number at the time. He broke down during a race in 2000 and was euthanized. In his career, he finished in second or third place fourteen times. Nationalore was racing's richest maiden (non-winning horse), with earnings of $318,227. Nationalore was by Video Ranger (fourth in the 1990 Kentucky Derby) out of Romantic Jet. He was trained and bred by his owner, Myung Kwon Cho. As a two-year-old, he ran ten races, finishing second twice. That year, his fourth race in 34 days, and his most lucrative result, was third place in the Grade I Breeders' Cup Juvenile, which earned him $120,000. Joseph P. LaCombe (born October 9, 1932 in Brooklyn, New York) is a retired American businessman and owner of Joseph LaCombe Stable Inc., a Thoroughbred horse racing stable. He is a former executive of a national accounts payable auditing business and one of the corporation's regional franchise owners. LaCombe first became involved in Thoroughbred racing as a part owner of horses but in February 1997 purchased at auction a 2-year-old that would be the first he owned outright. That colt was Favorite Trick who that year would win all eight of his starts including the 1997 Breeders' Cup Juvenile and become the first 2-year-old in twenty-five years to be voted United States Horse of the Year since Secretariat accomplished the feat in 1972. Patrick Alan "Pat" Day (born October 13, 1953, in Brush, Colorado) is a retired American jockey. He is a four-time winner of the Eclipse Award for Outstanding Jockey and was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 1991 and the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame in 1999. Favorite Trick (April 20, 1995 – June 6, 2006) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse who in 1997 became the first 2-year-old in twenty-five years to be voted United States Horse of the Year. Bred at Wintergreen Farm in Midway, Kentucky by Max Wood and his wife, Sylvia, Favorite Trick was out of the mare Evil Elaine. His sire was the successful sprint horse Phone Trick, who retired with a record of nine wins and a second in ten career starts. Shane Jude Sellers (born September 24, 1966 in Erath, Louisiana) is an American Thoroughbred horse racing jockey. At age eleven, he began working around horses and in 1983 rode his first winner at Evangeline Downs. Sellers won several national riding championships and was a leading rider at Arlington Park. Over his career, he rode in the Kentucky Derby 14 consecutive times, with his best finish a third with Wild Gale in 1993. The two took third again that year in the Belmont Stakes.
