The women's pole vault at the 1998 European Athletics Championships was held at the Népstadion on 18 and 21 August. The event was for the first time inducted into the European Outdoor Championships. Caroline Ammel (born 22 November 1973 at Blanc-Mesnil) is a former French athlete, who specialized in the pole vault. Biography She won three titles French National Pole Vault Championships: two Outdoor in 1995 and 2000, and one Indoors in 1996. Caroline was the first female record holder for the pole vault (French records) vaulting 3.91 m (1994). She four times improved the national record: 4.16 m and 4.21 m in 1997, and 4.22 m and 4.23 m in 1998. Her personal best is 4.30 m (2000). Þórey Edda Elísdóttir (born 30 June 1977 in Reykjavík) is an Icelandic former pole vaulter. Her personal best is 4.60 metres, achieved in July 2004 in Madrid. Daniela Bártová-Břečková () (born 6 May 1974) is a retired Czech athlete. She was born in Ostrava. Originally a gymnast, her coach persuaded her to be a pole vaulter. She set nine world records in the mid-1990s, but she lost it on 4 November 1995 to Sun Caiyun and was unable to recapture it. Her personal best is 4.51 m ( Bratislava, Slovakia, 9 June 1998).
