The 1998 Belarusian Premier League was the eighth season of top-tier Association football, football in Belarus. It started on April 12 and ended on October 31, 1998. FC Dinamo Minsk, Dinamo Minsk were the defending champions. Team changes from 1997 season Two worst teams of the last season (FC Torpedo Mogilev, Torpedo-Kadino Mogilev and FC Shakhtyor Soligorsk, Shakhtyor Soligorsk) relegated to the First League. They were replaced by two best clubs of 1996 Belarusian First League, 1996 First League (FC Gomel and FC BATE Borisov, BATE Borisov). In the early days of January it was announced that FC Transmash Mogilev, Transmash Mogilev ceased to exist as an independent club merged with FC Dnepr Mogilev, Dnepr Mogilev (with the latter being renamed to FC Dnepr Mogilev, Dnepr-Transmash Mogilev). FC Ataka Minsk, Ataka Minsk, who suffered heavy financial troubles, let go all their senior team players and failed to confirm their participation in the new season by a deadline in early March. ...

Belarusian Premier League
The Belarusian Premier League or the Vyšejšaja Liha or the Vysheyshaya Liga ( be, Вышэйшая ліга, russian: Высшая лига, "Top League") is the top division of professional football in Belarus, and is organized by the Belarusian Football Federation. The number of teams in the competition has varied over the years from as high as 17 (1992–93 season) to as low as 11 (2012). As of 2016, the league included 16 teams. Each team plays every other team twice during the course of the season. At the end of the season, the two teams with the fewest points are automatically relegated to the Belarusian First League, while the third worst team plays a promotion-relegation playoff against the third best team from the second tier. The top two teams from the Belarusian First League automatically win promotion to the Premier League.
