The 1997 Swedish speedway season was the 1997 season of motorcycle speedway in Sweden. Individual Individual Championship The 1997 Swedish Individual Speedway Championship final was held in Vetlanda on 16 August. Tony Rickardsson won the Swedish Championship for the third time. The 1996 Swedish speedway season was the 1996 season of motorcycle speedway in Sweden. Individual Individual Championship The 1996 Swedish Individual Speedway Championship final was held at the Orionparken in Hallstavik on 24 August. Jimmy Nilsen won the Swedish Championship. U21 Championship Emil Lindqvist won the U21 championship. Team Team Championship Örnarna won the Elitserien and were declared the winners of the Swedish Speedway Team Championship for the fourth time. The Örnarna team included Peter Karlsson, Kelvin Tatum, Mikael Karlsson and Niklas Klingberg. Leading positions in Division 1 North & South groups determined Division 1A & 1B leagues. Vargarna and Getingarna won the first division leagues respectively. Vargarna
Vargarna are a Swedish motorcycle speedway team based in Norrköping, Sweden. The team race at the Norrköpings Motorstadion. History The name Vargarna literally translates into English as "The Wolves". The team won the Swedish Speedway Team Championship five times 1949, 1951, 1953, 1954, 1960 and 1961. In recent years the club has moved up and down leagues from the Elitserien to the second tier of Swedish speedway, the Allsvenskan (National League). During the 2022 Swedish Speedway season the club reached the Allsvenskan play off final. Perhaps the club's most notable rider in recent years was the former world champion Nicki Pedersen, who signed for the team in 2010. He captained the side before leaving the club for Dackarna Dackarna is a speedway club from Målilla in Sweden who compete in the Swedish Elitserien. Erik Stenlund
Erik Stenlund (born 26 May 1962) is a former speedway rider from Sweden. Speedway career Stenlund is a two times world champion at the Individual Ice Speedway World Championship (1984 & 1988) and a former champion of Sweden, winning the Swedish Championship in 1985. He rode in the top tier of British Speedway for three seasons in 1982, 1988 and 1996, riding for various clubs. Greg Hancock
Gregory Alan Hancock (born June 3, 1970 in Whittier, California) is an American former professional motorcycle speedway rider. As of 2023, he was one of only six riders to have won the individual World Championship four or more times. In addition to his four Speedway World Championships he won the Speedway World Team Cup with the USA speedway team on three occasions. Hancock appeared in all but one of the Grand Prix series, since its creation in 1995 until 2019. Career Hancock first came to the United Kingdom at the end of the 1988 speedway season to ride exhibition races with fellow 18-year-old Californian Billy Hamill. It was during this time that Hancock agreed a deal to ride for Cradley Heath the following year – the same team that his mentor Bruce Penhall used to ride for. Elitserien (literally, "The Elite Series") ( sv, Elitserien i speedway) is the highest league in the league system of speedway in Sweden and currently comprises the top 7 Swedish speedway teams. The first season began in 1982. Rospiggarna
Rospiggarna is a motorcycle speedway team based in Hallstavik, Sweden. The club was founded in 1930 and were named ''Orion'', although it did not compete in the Swedish speedway leagues until 1966. The club joined the Swedish Division Three in 1966 and the team name was changed to ''Stjärnorna'' (English: The Stars). In 1978 the name was changed again to Rospiggarna which is the demonym for people from Roslagen, where Hallstavik is situated. Rospiggarna have won four Elitserien (speedway), Elitserien Championships and has also been the home team of 4 former Speedway World Championship, World Champions, Tony Rickardsson, Per Jonsson, Greg Hancock and Jason Crump. In 2010 it was announced that the club voluntarily made the decision to drop down a division due to financial problems.
