The second edition of the Johan Cruyff Shield ( nl, Johan Cruijff Schaal) was held on 17 August 1997 at the Amsterdam Arena in Amsterdam. It featured the 1996–97 Eredivisie champions, PSV Eindhoven, and the 1996–97 KNVB Cup winners, Roda JC. PSV won the match 3–1, with two goals from Phillip Cocu and a goal from Gilles De Bilde; Peter Van Houdt scored for Roda JC. Arthur Numan (born 14 December 1969) is a Dutch former professional footballer. He played as a left back and was a regular fixture in Netherlands national football team. He is currently the team manager for the Netherlands B squad and a scout for AZ Alkmaar. Ramon van Haaren (born 16 September 1972) is a Dutch former footballer. In his 14-year lasting career, he played for RKC Waalwijk, Roda JC, Feyenoord and Sparta Rotterdam. Maarten Schops
Maarten Schops (born 3 April 1976) is a Belgian former footballer, who played as a defensive midfielder. Club career Schops started out with Belgian club Lommel. In 1996, he joined Dutch side Roda JC, where he won the KNVB Cup in his first season, scoring in the final. During the second half of the 1997–98 season, he was loaned out to fellow Eredivisie team RKC Waalwijk, and in the summer of 1998, he made a permanent transfer to the club. In October 2000, Schops was loaned out to RBC Roosendaal for the remainder of the season, as his services were no longer needed at RKC Waalwijk. Regilio Vrede (born 18 January 1973) is a Dutch former professional footballer who played as a central defender. Born in Paramaribo, Suriname, Vrede made over 200 appearances for RKC Waalwijk, Roda JC, Iraklis Thessaloniki, FC Groningen and TOP Oss. Gerardus Christianus (Ger) Senden (born 9 July 1971) is a retired Dutch footballer, who played as a right back. He was born in Heerlen, and played for Roda JC from 1989 to 2008, earning the honorary nickname ''Mister Roda JC''. Nikola Damjanac ( Serbian Cyrillic: Никола Дамјанац; born 21 October 1971) is a Serbian former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper.
