1997 All-SEC Football Team
The 1997 All-SEC football team consists of American football players selected to the All-Southeastern Conference (SEC) chosen by the ''Associated Press'' (AP) and the conference coaches for the 1997 NCAA Division I-A football season. The Tennessee Volunteers won the conference, beating the Auburn Tigers 30 to 29 in the SEC Championship game. Tennessee quarterback Peyton Manning, the runner-up for the Heisman Trophy, was voted the AP SEC Offensive Player of the Year. American Football
American football (referred to simply as football in the United States and Canada), also known as gridiron, is a team sport played by two teams of eleven players on a rectangular field with goalposts at each end. The offense, the team with possession of the oval-shaped football, attempts to advance down the field by running with the ball or passing it, while the defense, the team without possession of the ball, aims to stop the offense's advance and to take control of the ball for themselves. The offense must advance at least ten yards in four downs or plays; if they fail, they turn over the football to the defense, but if they succeed, they are given a new set of four downs to continue the drive. Jamal Lewis
Jamal Lewis (born August 26, 1979) is an American former professional football player who was a running back in the National Football League (NFL) for the Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns. He played college football at Tennessee and was selected fifth overall by the Ravens in the 2000 NFL Draft. After spending his first seven seasons with the Ravens, Lewis signed a free agent contract with the Cleveland Browns in 2007 season and retired after the 2009 season. Lewis is best known for his career as a Raven, where he contributed to the team winning Super Bowl XXXV as a rookie. Jevon Kearse
Jevon Kearse (born September 3, 1976), nicknamed "the Freak", is a former American football player who was a defensive end in the National Football League (NFL) for eleven seasons during the late 1990s and 2000s. Kearse played college football for the University of Florida, where he received All-American honors and was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Year in 1998. Kearse was selected by the Tennessee Titans in the first round pick of the 1999 NFL Draft. He also played for the Philadelphia Eagles for four seasons between his two stints with the Titans. Takeo Spikes
Takeo Gerard Spikes (; born December 17, 1976) is a former American football linebacker who played in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for Auburn University. He was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals 13th overall in the 1998 NFL Draft. A two-time Pro Bowl selection and one time All-Pro, Spikes also played for the Buffalo Bills, Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers and San Diego Chargers. Jonathan Bernard Brown (born November 28, 1975) is a former professional American, Canadian and Arena football defensive lineman, who last played for the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League.
