1997 Algarve Cup
The 1997 Algarve Cup was the fourth edition of the Algarve Cup, an invitational women's association football tournament. It took place between 10 and 16 March 1997 in Portugal with Norway women's national football team, Norway winning the event for the third time in its history, defeating the PR China, 1-0 in the final-game. Sweden ended up third defeating Denmark, 6-5 following a penalty shootout, in the third prize-game. Format The Netherlands women's national football team, Netherlands returned to the tournament, replacing Russia women's national football team, Russia. The eight invited teams were split into two groups that played a round-robin tournament. Marianne Pettersen
Marianne Iren Pettersen (born 12 April 1975 in Oslo) is a Norway, Norwegian Association football, footballer. She was a forward for the club Asker Fotball, Asker, whom she joined from Gjelleråsen IF, Gjelleråsen after the Norwegian Premier League 1996 (women's football), 1996 season, and became the top scorer with 36 goals in the Norwegian Premier League 1998 (women's football), 1998 season of 18 matches. Hege Riise
Hege Riise (born 18 July 1969) is a Norwegian football coach and former midfield player who is coaching the Norway women's national football team. One of the best footballers of her generation, she won the FIFA Women's World Cup, the Olympic Games, and the UEFA Women's Euro with the Norway women's national football team. Playing career Club Riise started playing football at age six and played in a boys' team until age 14. She won the Norwegian Cup competition with Setskog-Høland in 1992. In late 1995 along with four other Norwegians she joined Nikko Securities Dream Ladies football club in Japan. Nikko won the Japanese league and cup competitions in 1996 and the cup in 1997, after which Riise moved back to Norway to play again with Setskog-Høland. Penalty Kick (association Football)
A penalty kick (commonly known as a penalty or a spot kick) is a method of restarting play in association football, in which a player is allowed to take a single shot at the goal while it is defended only by the opposing team's goalkeeper. It is awarded when an offence punishable by a direct free kick is committed by a player in their own penalty area. The shot is taken from the penalty mark, which is 11 m (12 yards) from the goal line and centred between the touch lines. Procedure The ball is placed on the penalty mark, regardless of where in the penalty area the foul occurred. The player taking the kick must be identified to the referee. A penalty shoot-out (officially kicks from the penalty mark) is a tie-breaking method in association football to determine which team is awarded victory in a match that cannot end in a draw, when the score is tied after the normal time as well as extra time (if used) have expired. In a penalty shoot-out, each team takes turns shooting at goal from the penalty mark, with the goal defended only by the opposing team's goalkeeper. Each team has five shots which must be taken by different kickers; the team that makes more successful kicks is declared the victor. Shoot-outs finish as soon as one team has an insurmountable lead. If scores are level after five pairs of shots, the shootout progresses into additional " sudden-death" rounds. Balls successfully kicked into the goal during a shoot-out do not count as goals for the individual kickers or the team, and are tallied separately from the goals scored during normal play (including extra time, if any). Loulé () is a city and municipality in the region of Algarve, district of Faro, Portugal. In 2011, the population of the entire municipality was 70,622 inhabitants, in an area of approximately . Lagoa (Algarve)

Malin Swedberg
Malin Swedberg (born 15 September 1968) is a Swedish former football midfielder who won 78 caps for the Sweden women's national team, scoring ten goals. She represented Sweden at the inaugural FIFA Women's World Cup in 1991; as well as in the Olympic women's football tournament in 1996 and 2000. Since retiring Swedberg has gone into television punditry and worked as a commentator on Eurosport and TV4. Club career As a 19-year-old, Swedberg signed a professional contract with Napoli.
