1997 Alamo Bowl
The 1997 Alamo Bowl featured the 1997 Purdue Boilermakers football team, Purdue Boilermakers, and the 1997 Oklahoma State Cowboys football team, Oklahoma State Cowboys. Oklahoma State took an early 3–0 lead on a field goal. Purdue responded with an 18-yard touchdown pass from Billy Dicken, to take a 7–3 lead. The teams traded field goals before half time, and Purdue led 10–6 at halftime. In the second half, quarterback Billy Dicken rushed one yard for a touchdown increasing Purdue's lead to 17–6. Running back Jamaal Fobbs sprinted 21 yards for a touchdown pulling OSU to within 17–13. Wide receiver Vinny Sutherland changed the momentum by running for a 19-yard touchdown, extending Purdue's lead to 24–13. Billy Dickens threw a 69-yard touchdown pass to Chris Daniels making the score 30–13. Purdue added a field goal to make the margin 33–13. Builders Square
Builders Square was a Big-box store, big-box home improvement retailer headquartered in San Antonio, Texas. A subsidiary of Kmart (United States), Kmart, its format was quite similar to The Home Depot, Menards, and Lowe's with floor space of about , and inventories in excess of 35,000 different items. In 1997, a Los Angeles leveraged buyout specialist acquired Builders Square and merged it with Hechinger but the new combined company failed to thrive and all remaining stores ceased business operations by the end of 1999. Todd Blackledge
Todd Alan Blackledge (born February 25, 1961) is a former American football quarterback in both the NCAA and National Football League. In college, he led the Penn State Nittany Lions to a national championship. A member of the famed Class of 1983, he played for the Kansas City Chiefs and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Alamo Bowl
The Alamo Bowl is an NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision college football bowl game played annually since 1993 in the Alamodome in San Antonio, San Antonio, Texas. Since 2010 it matches the second choice team from the Pac-12 Conference and the second choice team from the Big 12 Conference. Traditionally, the Alamo Bowl has been played in December, although it was played in January following the 2009, 2014, and 2015 seasons. The 1997–98 NCAA football bowl games concluded the 1997 NCAA Division I-A football season. In the third and final year of the Bowl Alliance era, Nebraska defeated Tennessee in the 1998 Orange Bowl, designated as the Bowl Alliance national championship for the 1997 season. AP-No. 1 ranked Michigan defeated Washington State in the 1998 Rose Bowl, which was not a part of the Bowl Alliance. Vinny Sutherland
Vincent Joseph Sutherland (born April 22, 1978) is a former professional American football player who played wide receiver for two seasons in the National Football League for the Atlanta Falcons, San Francisco 49ers and Chicago Bears. He was a standout receiver and kick returner for Purdue University from 1997-2000. He also played for the Arena Football League's New York Dragons. At the time of his graduation in 2001, his 13 receiving touchdowns were a school record for one season. That record was tied in 2002 by John Standeford, and broken in 2004 by Taylor Stubblefield.
