1996–97 Yemeni League
The 1996–97 Yemeni League is the fifth edition of top-level football in Yemen. The season started in November 1996 and ended in June 1997. Al Wahda Sana'a' won the title. Teams A total of twelve teams contested the league, including teen sides from the 1994–95 season and two promoted teams from the 1994–95 ??? league. Al-Taliya Taizz and Al-Shurta Aden were relegated from 1994 to 1995 Yemeni League after finishing the season in the bottom two places of the league table. 1994–95 ??? League champions Al-Ittihad (Ibb) and runners-up Al Sha'ab Sana'a secured direct promotion to the Yemeni League. Yemeni League
Yemeni League is the top football division of the Yemen Football Association. It was created in 1990 after the unification of North and South Yemen. It was set up in a four-level system with Premier, First, Second and Third Division. 16 northern and 16 southern clubs entered the top level championship in the 1990–91 season. Previously, two separate championships were used for North Yemen and South Yemen. Currently, 14 clubs play at the top level, with four clubs being relegated to the 2nd tier. The season is generally run from early November to late June with the league winners entering the AFC Cup and Arab Champions League. The league has been cancelled since 2014 to 2021, due to the civil war which also stopped all other footballing activities in the Middle Eastern country. Ali Muhesen Stadium
Altawra Sports City Stadium ( ar, مدينة الثورة الرياضية), also known as the Ali Mohsen al-Muraisi Stadium ( ar, ملعب علي محسن المريسي), is a multi-purpose stadium in San‘a’, Yemen. It is currently used mostly for football matches. The stadium holds 30,000 people and was opened in 1986. It is currently the home ground of the Yemen national football team. During the Saudi Arabian-led intervention in Yemen at the Yemen War, the stadium was destroyed by a Saudi Arabian's air strike. In 2016, the stadium suffered bomb damage again. Yemeni League Seasons
Yemen (; ar, ٱلْيَمَن, al-Yaman), officially the Republic of Yemen,, ) is a country in Western Asia. Abyan Governorate
Abyan ( ar, أَبْيَن ) is a governorate of Yemen. The Abyan region was historically part of the Fadhli Sultanate. It was a base to the Aden-Abyan Islamic Army militant group. Its capital is the city of Zinjibar. This governorate is noted for its agriculture, in particular the cultivation of date palms and animal husbandry. Abyan Governorate borders Shabwa Governorate to the east, Aden Governorate and Lahij Governorate to the west, Shabwa Governorate and Al Bayda Governorate to the north, and the Arabian Sea to the south. Mukalla
Mukalla ( ar, ٱلْمُكَلَّا, ') is a seaport and the capital city of Yemen's largest governorate, Hadhramaut. The city is in the southern part of the Arabian Peninsula on the Gulf of Aden, on the shores of the Arabian Sea, about east of Aden. It is the most important port in the Hadhramaut and the fifth-largest city in Yemen, with a population of approximately 500,000. The city is served by the nearby Riyan International Airport. Al Hudaydah
Al-Hudaydah ( ar, الْحُدَيْدَة, al-ḥudayda), also transliterated as Hodeda, Hodeida, Hudaida or Hodeidah, is the fourth-largest city in Yemen and its principal port on the Red Sea. As of 2004, its population was 402,560 and it is the centre of the Al Hudaydah Governorate. History In the Islamic chronicles, the name Al-Hudaydah was first mentioned in the year 1454/55 and the city became a popular and important one in the 1520s when the Ottomans took over Yemeni Tihāmah. Sanaa ( ar, صَنْعَاء, ' , Yemeni Arabic: ; Old South Arabian: 𐩮𐩬𐩲𐩥 ''Ṣnʿw''), also spelled Sana'a or Sana, is the capital and largest city in Yemen and the centre of Sanaa Governorate.
