1996–97 Cypriot Second Division
The 1996–97 Cypriot Second Division was the 42nd season of the Cypriot second-level football league. AEL won their 1st title. Format Fourteen teams participated in the 1996–97 Cypriot Second Division. All teams played against each other twice, once at their home and once away. The team with the most points at the end of the season crowned champions. The first three teams were promoted to 1997–98 Cypriot First Division and the last three teams were relegated to the 1997–98 Cypriot Third Division. Cypriot Second Division
The Cypriot Second Division ( el, Πρωτάθλημα Β΄ Κατηγορίας) is the second highest football division of the Cypriot football league system. Administrated by the Cyprus Football Association, it is contested by 16 teams, with the top two teams being promoted to the Cypriot First Division and the last four teams being relegated to the Cypriot Third Division. History The Cypriot Second Division started unofficially the 1934–35 football season as the second level of the Cypriot football (Cyprus Football Association founded in 1934). The competition consisted of teams that didn't participate in Cypriot First Division and the reserve teams of the Cypriot First Division clubs. In the reserve teams were allowed to participate only players that had no more than three caps with their team in First Division. Omonia Aradippou
Omonia Aradippou () is a Cypriot professional football club based in Aradippou, a settlement on the outskirts of the city of Larnaca. The club was founded on 4 April 1929 and currently, they compete in the Cypriot Second Division. 1996–97 Cypriot Cup
The 1996–97 Cypriot Cup was the 55th edition of the Cypriot Cup. A total of 50 clubs entered the competition. It began on 9 November 1996 with the preliminary round and concluded on 17 May 1997 with the final which was held at Makario Stadium. APOEL won their 16th Cypriot Cup trophy after beating Omonia 2–0 in the final. Format In the 1996–97 Cypriot Cup, participated all the teams of the Cypriot First Division, the Cypriot Second Division, the Cypriot Third Division and 9 of the 14 teams of the Cypriot Fourth Division. The competition consisted of six knock-out rounds. In the preliminary round and in the first round each tie was played as a single leg and was held at the home ground of the one of the two teams, according to the draw results. Akritas Chlorakas ( el, Ακρίτας Χλώρακας) is a Cypriot football club based in Chloraka, Paphos. The club was founded in 1971, and currently plays in the Cypriot First Division. Akritas' colours are green and white, and they play their home games at the Chloraka Municipal Stadium. History Founded in 1971, Akritas Chlorakas joined the Cyprus Football Association in 1973, competing in the Cypriot Third Division.
