Montreuil, Pas-de-Calais
Montreuil (; also nl, Monsterole), also known as Montreuil-sur-Mer (; pcd, Montreu-su-Mér or , literally ''Montreuil on Sea''), is a sub-prefecture in the Pas-de-Calais department, northern France. It is located on the Canche river, not far from Étaples. The sea, however, is now some distance away. Montreuil-sur-Mer station has rail connections to Arras and Étaples. Sights Montreuil is surrounded by notable brickwork ramparts, constructed after the destruction of the town by troops of Habsburg emperor Charles V in June 1537. These fortifications pre-date the extensive fortification of towns in northern France by Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban in the 17th century. History Montreuil was the headquarters of the British Army in France during the First World War from March 1916 until it closed in April 1919. Dario David Cioni (born 2 December 1974) is a retired English-born Italian professional road bicycle racer. Career Mountain bike career Cioni began his career as a professional mountain bike racer at the age of 19. He found success early with victory in the Italian Winter Championship and second place at both the Italian Cup and Italian Championships. Selected to represent Italy at the World Championships, Cioni finished tenth. He continued with similar results through his mountain bike career, with several top five placings at World Cup events including second at St. Wendel in 1996. Cioni also rode some Cyclo-cross towards the end of the nineties. Jérôme Chiotti (born 18 January 1972 in Millau, France) was a professional racing cyclist in both road and mountain bike disciplines. He is most renowned for his victory in the 1996 World Mountain Bike Championships, a title which he later renounced by admitting doping. Doping Admission Chiotti admitted to doping in order to win the 1996 World Championships in an interview with French magazine Vélo Vert on 23 April 2000. Richard Groenendaal
Richard Marinus Anthonius Groenendaal (born 13 July 1971) is a Dutch former professional cyclo-cross cyclist. Groenendaal won the UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships in 2000 and the overall titles in the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup 1997–1998, 2000–2001 and 2003–2004 and in the Cyclo-cross Superprestige in 1997–1998 and 2000–2001. Early career Groenendaal's father Reinier was an Elite cyclo-cross cyclist and was Dutch Elite champion in 1985. Groenendaal began to ride as a junior in 1987.
