The 1996 South Africa rugby union tour of Argentina and Europe was a series of rugby union matches played during November and December 1996 in Argentina, France and Wales by the South Africa national rugby union team. At the same time, the second level team, (" South Africa A") was involved in a tour of Great Britain and Ireland. Andre Markgraaff
Andries Thomas "Andre" Markgraaff (born 23 December 1956) is a retired South African rugby union lock. He matriculated at Diamantveld High School and was a controversial national coach, who resigned after he was taped using the racial K-word. Playing career Markgraaff was selected for the South African team in 1986 against the Cavaliers but as an unused substitute. Markgraaff also represented Western Transvaal, Western Province, Griqualand West and the then South West Africa in 20 games. He captained the South African Barbarians on a tour to Europe and the Junior Springboks. Coaching In 1988, he became coach of Griqualand West. He became president of Griquas in 1991. In 1996, Markgraaff was appointed as the Springbok rugby coach. In 1997 Markgraaff was forced to quit after his controversial racial statements, when he referred to a black senior rugby administrator Mluleki George as a "kaffir". Toks Van Der Linde
Albert 'Toks' van der Linde (born 30 December 1969) is a former South African rugby union player. Playing career Van der Linde went to school in Senekal in the Free State and represented at the annual Craven Week tournament in 1986 and 1987. After finishing school, he attended the University of the Free State and made his provincial debut for in 1992. Van der Linde also played for and then moved to , for which he played 133 games. Van der Linde made his test match debut for the Springboks against the on 12 November 1995 at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. Dawie Theron
David François Theron (born 15 September 1966) is a South African former rugby union player. Playing career Theron represented the South Africa Universities under–19 and under–20 teams in 1986. He made his senior provincial debut for Free State in 1988 and in 1995 he joined Griqualand West. He made his test debut for the Springboks as a replacement against Australia on 3 August 1996 at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein. His last test match was against New Zealand at Eden Park in Auckland. Theron played thirteen test matches and two tour matched for the Springboks. Adrian Christopher Garvey (born 25 June 1968 in Bulawayo) is a former Zimbabwean-born South African rugby union player. He played as a tighthead prop, and was known for his mobility and ball skills. Career Garvey played 1st team rugby at Plumtree High School in Zimbabwe and was selected for the Zimbabwe Schools team in 1986. Dick John Muir (born 20 March 1965) is a South African former rugby union player, and now the interim head coach of Netherlands national rugby union team. Muir played for Natal for most of his career before moving to Western Province helping him to make his international debut for the Springboks in 1997. He won back-to-back Currie Cup titles with Natal in 1996 and a year later with Western Province in 1997. In 1998 he made his Stormers debut, where in late April 1999, Muir suffered a serious neck injury against the Auckland Blues which led to the centre retiring in mid May of that year.
