1996 Pacific Curling Championships
The 1996 Pacific Curling Championships were held from November 26 to 29 in Sydney, Australia. Australia won the men's event over Japan (it was the sixth Pacific title for the Australian men). On the women's side, Japan defeated Australia in the final (it was the fifth Pacific title for the Japanese women). By virtue of winning, the Australian men's team and the Japanese women's team qualified for the 1997 World and Curling Championships in Bern, Switzerland ). Swiss law does not designate a ''capital'' as such, but the federal parliament and government are installed in Bern, while other federal institutions, such as the federal courts, are in other cities (Bellinzona, Lausanne, Luzern, Neuchâtel .... Skip (curling)
In the sport of curling, the skip is the captain of a team. The skip determines strategy, and holds the broom in the ''house'' (target area) to indicate where a teammate at the other end of the curling ''sheet'' (playing area) should aim the stone. The skip usually throws the last two stones in the fourth position, but may play in any other position. Sometimes "skipper" is used; it can also be abbreviated as "S". It's also used as a verb ("skips", "skipped", "skipping"). It is conventional to identify a team by the name of the skip. Lorne De Pape (born 18 April 1955 in Saint Boniface, Manitoba) is a Canadian-born New Zealand curler. He moved to New Zealand in the 1990s due to his job for Monsanto. He competed for New Zealand at the 2006 Winter Olympics despite the country having limited curling resources at the time. Sean Peter Becker (born 7 July 1975 in Ranfurly, New Zealand, Ranfurly) is a New Zealand curler. Career Becker was the skip for New Zealand teams which won three Pacific Curling Championships in 1998, 2003, and 2004. Peter Becker (born 9 June 1949 in Otago, New Zealand) is a New Zealand curler and curling coach. At the international level, he is a two-time bronze medallist (, , , , ) of Pacific Curling Championships.
